Maint display

I have a 1996 GSX that cut out at speed. The MAINT display would show but would restart in 30 seconds.

After a few days of just looking and feeling around, I disconnected the battery to see if it would reset the MAINT on the display.

Pushing the start button, it would beep, both the red lights would come on a few seconds, the MAINT display was still there ( it would flash 10 times), the GSX started well, I did 20 test runs and it never cut out. Each time I started it the MAINT would display and flash 10 times but it ran well over 50 mph.

Gas and oil look good.

Do I have a problem?

I don't see anything in the manual on that. Try the advanced diagnostics on the DESS........

With the lanyard removed, push the start stop button 5 times. You should hear one long, one short beep. Then, put the lanyard cap on. IF you hear no beeps and the engine starts, all is fine. IF you get more beeps, then let us know how many.......

Maint display test

When I put the lanyard on I heard one long, one short beep (the same sound as what I heard after the 5 start presses.)

What does that mean? In it in the manual?

Advanced diagnostics.....

According to the manual, if you get one short then one long while in the advanced diagnostics mode, it means your safety lanyard has never been programmed to the mpem.

Translation......if this lanyard has worked with this ski before and you know it's the correct one. Chances are, it's going or gone bad and you'll need a new lanyard.

What's weird is it's running. I don't think I'd worry about if for the moment, as long as the ski is running. It may just be shorted somewhere in the electrical system................:cheers:

Clearing up the sound ...

My friend suggested that I clear up the sounds I heard. The sound I heard was one continious sound - a longer tone with a short beep at the end. Not two separate sounds. The sounds were the same - after the 5 start pressess and when the lanyard was put on. Does that make a difference?

Can I stop the MAINT display? Reset it?

I just got the manuals.....
