Looking for buying a 4-tech sportster or speedster

Hi I am new here and I am searching to buy a 2004-2008 either sportster 155HP or SC 215HP.
A question for you experienced owner of Sportster: one of 2008 speedster seller stated that he replaced a new engine ($6,000) last season due to rain water got into his boat since he turn off battery and bilge pump did not kick off. The boat engine ruined. I have not testing the boat yet but does this sounds a little odd ? Wanting to hear your opinion before I buy the boat and what to look for if the water ever got into (flood) the boat engine area before ?

A fellow member is selling a 2004 Speedster 200. 310 HP. For $13,000. Just telling you as buying from a forum member is always a good thing.

To answer your question, others have had this issue. Water/snow gets into the boat and fills it up over winter. Floods the engine..

If flood into engine area what can be damaged other than engine ?

Wire ends/connections. Just a matter of looking at all of the connections and plug connections. Anything electrical can be an issue. Starter, cables,

The computer sits ontop of that motor. See if he has receipts for repairs and check what has been replaced.
