Looking at a new boat. Which engine? Mercruiser or Volvo-Penta, and why?

Diesel, why not, but I have not seen them offered.

Only negative I can think of is I HATE the smell of diesel exhaust, and wouldn't want to inhale it while wakeboarding.

I had never thought of this. [Only negative I can think of is I HATE the smell of diesel exhaust, and wouldn't want to inhale it while wakeboarding]

Volvo Boat Engines

In my experience with volvo engines, I would stay away from them, a lot of them are fitted so tight esp. i/0 and the parts can be very expensive and difficult to install due to this reason. I would go with another brand for sure...

Hmmm. I never thought of that. Just like the german cars, you cannot afford parts and labor...

We still haven't purchased, and are still looking.

By the way, welcome to the forum!

Run her off of biodiesel or old cooking oil that way the entire time your wakeboarding you can be smelling and wanting french frys.....lol

We have a 94 Cobalt with 500 hours on the 4.3 Merc and haven't had a single issue outside of simple maintenance that you'd have to do on any motor.

Well I think your looking in the right direction.. I personally like out boards (mercury baby) but next in line would be an IO before I would go jet. Only real reason is I see so many people out here suck up seaweed with theres and its gotta be a pain to un clog with it being a boat not a ski where you can just be floating next to your ski and stick your hand under to get the seaweed out instead of diving under....
