Little black tags

Ya shoulda heeded Jake's first reply ... you have been "black-tagged" for having subversive stuff on your computer.
But Jake, you should have been seeing lots of these!

Tim,

I was just wondering did you get rid of the alleged "black tags".

Lou

Sorry Lou i just saw your post tonight. Yes the tags are gone. IDK really why. I didn't have time to uninstall/reinstall firefox yet but I did uninstall an extra toolbar at the top. I can't remember the name but it had xxxxxx 2.1 It may have something to do with Plaxco?? which i never used but I loaded since a few friends were connected to it.

Thanks for all the tips.

What does cleaning the registry do?

I did not have time to research deeply, just to determine I was seeing these when using Internet Explorer, but not with FireFox. sdb you are not alone, so relax. If I find a genuine answer as to why/how I will update here. It looks like something is linking common things to web sites that are selling these things, I just do not see the mechanization yet.

on a related note

one thing to remember, when upgrading things like java, flash, etc... is to carefully read what they check or uncheck as far as additional software they install, most people just click next next next to complete the install, not noticing that the developer has slipped a couple of things in there that you need to "uncheck".

my mom and pops do it all the time, and end up getting the "ask toolbar" and other stuff installed repeatedly.. , last week my mom had speedupmypc, ask tool bar and another toolbar i'd never seen before, it was screwing up everything ! easy fix for me just uninstall. and they were related to her java updates... little bastages always hiding stuff. with my parents computers i've actually given up on fighting the Bing war to switch them back to google, bing seems to invade their puters about every other week and after reverting them back to google search like 5 times I just said "fk it" and quit switching it back... but its another reason I refuse to ever use bing, since I hate developers that invade computers like that to push their product.

oh and ps... chrome and sdf work just fine.. and I have spellchecker in chrome... I hate IE... but I have to use it for some sites at work because thats all they accept, although now i'm having compability issues with the IE 10 upgrade,, annoying... so I have to go into compability mode sometimes...

chrome is my first choice and will be until they piss me off...

used firefox for a couple of years and still have it installed but I haven't used FF in probably 24 months.

one program that I absolutely LOVE.... Adblock plus... free and blocks all the friggen popups on various sites and facebook too....

Tim, I know what you mean. There is always a box to uncheck when updating Java (I think) so you don't get the anti virus program McAfee installed.

Wow you haven't use FF in 24 months......that's almost 2 years. :) :)

An easy way to see what has been installed on your computer is,,,

Control Panel--> Program Files.

Once it opens and loads, click on the date near the top center. This will show the programs from most recent to oldest in regards to when they were installed. From there, I am betting you will see more than one third-party program that was loaded on your computer. Click on them and then choose UNINSTALL and remove them from your computer...
