Leaving today to buy my boat

Good one Joel....You got me chuckling and I needed that after one of those days at work.

Well, Yesterday I took my boat to an area Seadoo Dealer to get a few items addressed. For one the Port engine wont start(Trys to crank but just wont), The bilge pump wont work automatically and the fuel fill hose is severely kinked. I spoke with the dealer tonight and they say they are going through the entire boat and will be getting with BRP about all issues they find. They wouldn't go into specifics over the phone but I suspect the NC isn't going to be very happy. Someone is gonna have to pay this FLA dealer to make the boat right. All they said was parts need to be ordered once they speak with BRP. My guess is they are finding a ton of deficiencies.

My impression is this dealer here is far more thorough than Smith Powersports or this dealer is opportunistic and see a chance to score some $$$$????

Craig

yes but they always get bulldozed cause most dont have igloo permits. Mine got bulldozed couple hr's ago. Man so cold outside my wireless internet is freezing...

LOL ive actually had and american chick with gaps in her teeth so big she could floss with a shoe lace ask me that once think it was at a Bob evan's or waffle house LMAO..... Make sure to tell the dealer that any repair the will cost YOU $$$ will need to be authorized by YOU.... Hope they get every thing fixed for you. also let me know what the fix for the bilge is i think mines doing the same thing.

Sounds like you found a dealer that may care what kind of reputation they make for Sea-doo and themselves. It's too bad when you run into one that just doesn't seem to care. But if it works out it sounds like you found the perfect deal, a place to buy super cheap, and a place that knows what they are doing when it comes to repairs.

Aaron:cheers:

PS: Make sure you post some pictures when you get it in the water.

Barney's in ST Pete's is about the best seadoo dealer around. They have been in business for a long time. I think they are the largest in volume in the USA too.

B.E.S.T. plus

Karl,

So far I'm happy with my decision to go to Barneys. They're not the closest dealer but I dont mind the extra 25 minute ride to try for the best service.

Question: The dealer IN NC sold me the Seadoo "B.E.S.T. plus" extended warranty. According to the documentation I read it suggests that this includes the 10 hours service at no charge to me? Am I reading this right?

Craig

I believe your correct. I would have Barney's look it over and explain it better. This way you know what to expect. I have 2 local dealers here in Englewood area,( Sarasota and Punta Gorda) but deal with Barney's by choice...it's a 1.5 hr. drive one way. I do all my own service but for seadoo warranty parts UPS is a good thing, or a phone call works for me. I get tired of answers like "...uh I'm not sure", or "I have no idea" I get from other dealers. :ack:

Fixed!!!

Wahoooo! Barneys just called. MY BOAT IS READY!!!!!!!! I'll get all the details on specific repairs tonight and report back! In addition to hearing that everything was fixed, it was music to my ears when they said they checked the BUD system for hours and they are at ZERO!!!!:hurray:

I've got an hour meter I need to install so I can monitor the time and get the 10 hour service done on time.

Any advice on where to grab the 12vdc? I obviously want the 12 volts when the engine is running. Again I have the 4-tec 155hp x 2.

Behind the gages in the dash is a purple wire. Attach to this power feed as it only has power with the DESS attached. Connect the ground wire to a good grounding point.

Remember to go over your extended warranty paper work with them.

Karl

Great to hear they got everything fixed and wow that was fast. Sounds like nothing majorly wrong.
I was thinking of the hour meter also, Karl does my 230 wake have that same wire?
:hurray:

Give it a look over. The purple wire should be there somewhere. Even if you have to tap into an existing purple power wire, it is the power feed connected to the DESS. That's the only way to be accurate to the engine running hrs.

Repairs

Reviewing the items they repaired on my new, never been in the water Utopia 205:

Bilge Pump not working automatically: There are actually two bilge pump fuses. While I replaced a blown fuse at the helm, apparently there is a second fuse that was also blown in the engine compartment(this fuse is for float switch). Once they replaced this they said the pump would run continuously. They replaced the bilge pump.

Port Engine will not start(Trys to crank perhaps 1/2 revolution then stops). They state Liner in pump is swelled binding up impeller. They removed pump and engine started. They replaced wear ring and replace pump liner.

Fuel line kinked in engine compartment. Replace fill hose Neck/soft(Whatever that means).

I'm hopeful this weekend I can launch it and sea trial.

I have my Utopia 205 (2004) at barney's now for a check-up...just bought it...

See you in the Bay sometime!!

Barney's seems to be a bit overpriced for the service, but they certainly know what they are doing...longest standing Sea-Doo service shop in the area from what I am told!

Barneys

I hope to inspect Barneys work this Sunday when I sea trial my Utopia for the first time. So far I'm happy with them and intent on using them for my 10 hour service and all warranty work.

Update on backordered items for my new 2007 205. The Bimini is backordered till end of February and get this.......The missing underseat storage bin is backordered till JUNE!!!!! Scary isnt it?

check at your local dealer to see how long it would take for them to get the parts!

Does tapping an existing wire void the warranty?

I know with cars the dealer can refuse repairs when they find a wire tapped/spliced. Does this happen with the SeaDoo warranty?

You may want to ask the dealer about this when you review the extended service contract with them. It might be that you all you have to do is make sure that the hours meter is fused (you would do that anyway).

Congrats on the great price and enjoy your new ride. Can't wait to see pics and read all about the first ride!!!

Tapping into the purple wire doesn't void the warranty unless it was in the main harness to the Mpem. It's like adding a after market stereo to your vehicle...that doesn't void your warranty either.

I dont think seadoo can complain if you put an hr meter in to maintain your boat, if so then they should start installing them like most boat companys do.
I like how the $12,000 pwc have hr meters but the $25,000+ boats dont. I think seadoo needs to step up and have in dash hr meters in ALL there boats.
