I'm leaving this afternoon on a mission to rescue my Seadoo from the frozen clutches of winter. Thats right, I'm leaving the Sunshine state of Florida :driving: :auto: to buy my Brand new, never been in the water, never registered 2007 Utopia 205:hurray::cheers:

Its gonna drop to 9 degrees where I'm headed but its worth it to save my Seadoo from a life of arctic wastefulness :reddevil:

Upon my return I'll be sure to post pictures of my amazing rescue and the happy Seadoo in its new semi-tropical environment.

Exhausted

Guys,

Just got home from an 1100 mile 30 hour adventure and got in the door about 30 minutes ago...I'm too tired to compose the trip experience right now but I will say I have a new Utopia 205 in the driveway :drool5::drool5:

Will post full report in the morning.

Craig

how was SmithPowerSports ?

Dude must "REALLY" be wiped out after that drive,.. not to be on the site, blow'n it up/new avatar picture...
Congrats....

Full report

Sorry I took so long to report...Here goes.

Friday afternoon at 3:30pm we left Florida for Smith Powersports in Hayesville North Carolina. This dealer has a "New" 2007 Utopia 205 they sold me for a ridiculously low price. This boat is not a "perfect" boat by any means. Its been open to the world for a while with some scuffs here and there. Some parts are missing however Smith Powersports have them on order and will ship to me at no cost.

We Stay the night in Blue Ridge GA. When we woke up Saturday morning it was 8 degrees.....EIGHT I say!! No matter, as I was on a secret mission to free the Seadoo from the Arctic prison.

After checking on our land we own in Franklin we finally got to Smith Powersports about 11am Saturday. I walk into the dealership and WOW....This is one impressive showroom!!! While they have a few boats and PWCs they must have hundreds and hundreds of motorcycles. Very impressive facility.

I finally meet Fred my salesmen. Nice guy. We go and see the Utopia. I check things over the best I could considering the cold. The boat looks good but is missing a few items such as the Bimini, the storage tray under the starboard side bench seat and a seat strap in the bow. Today I noticed the bow seat cusion is missing the seat bottom bracket that locks the seat in so I need to notify them of this too.

I'm not sure whats up with the trailer. First of all I noticed that the left wheel was a 14 incher and the right was 13.....Took over an hour and a half to figure out what we were gonna do about that one....Since they didn't have another like trailer that they could take a wheel from they finally took two wheels off a Yamaha Jet boat trailer....They too were 14 inches and actually are a nicer wheel so I was good with that. Took another half hour to get them to install a license plate bracket on the trailer. Finally at 2pm we hit the road and headed towards Florida.

The drive home was eventless. The trailer pulls good. We stopped at a huge Bass pro in Macon GA where I bought some boat goodies. We got home at something like 1am Sunday but where delighted for no breakdowns and got home safe. Thats a true measure of a successful trip.

I'm a little concerned about the trailer. The boat sits REALLY close to the fenders. Is this normal??(pics below) I'm gonna have to pick up some guide bunks or another alignment device as there is gonna be no margin for error when loading.

My 2007 Utopia doesn't seem to have ICS. I thought I was going to have a switch on the dash for the Inlet clearance system but there is none. Looking below the boat the inlets dont appear to move. Was this not available in 2007??

Today I began the detailing process. The bilge throughout the boat was dirty so I began cleaning and flushing. I intentionally filling the bilge with fresh water to test the bilge pump but nothing.....Try the switch on the dash..Nothing.....I check the fuse under the helm and sure enough, a blown 3 amp....I change with a spare provided and now the pump works manually but not automatically. While working in the engine compartment I found another 3 amp fuse suspended that was blown and I need to replace and re-test. Wonder why these fuses were blown??

On my 2007 Utopia there is the main engine hatch that swings up and is held by two gas struts. Under this hatch is another hinged cover that exposes the engine. I cannot find any way of holding this cover. Was my boat supposed to come with a prop-rode or something?? The Salesmen didn't know.

After doing some cleaning today I decide to fire up the engines for a moment. I tested both engines yesterday at the dealer with no trouble. Today I install the ECC key and get a Beep-Beep pause Beep-Beep.. The starboard engine starts but the port engine will not. It cranks for a revolution maybe then stops as if the battery is dead. I then charged the battery for a while and try again but same thing. I immediately try the starboard engine and cranks just fine and starts. I checked all the connections going to the port engine(all grounds and battery power all the way to starter) and everything looks tight. WTF????? Is the Beep code telling me something?

Seadoo complaint. My hands are full of fiberglass splinters and are really sore. Closest I've been to Chinese torture. They should finish this off a little better.

Overall I'm pleased with the boat for the ridiculously low price I paid. I got the extra 3 years of Bombardier coverage since I got such a good deal.....Even with the warranty and the tax I will pay when I register here in Florida I still wont have $15,000 in this boat!!!!!!!!!!

Now I just have to deal with sorting out the new boat issues. I'm hopeful that the Seadoo dealers down here in Florida will work for me.

Overall my experience feels alot like that of TVZ’s. Even with a week of prep time the boat still has many issues that were not communicated to me Friday before we left. They led me to believe everything was good to go. I had to constantly go running around the facility asking for people to take care of issues for me. Fred had moved on to delivering a motorcycle so I sort of felt like I was on my own. They are nice people at Smith and I know I got a unbelievable price but I think this could have been handled a lot better. I’m fearful that the “We Owe” items they need to send me with also become a nightmare now that I’m 550 miles away. I’ll be calling them in a week to get a status and every couple of days there after. Would I recommend them? Yes but only if you get a deal of a lifetime and are prepared to deal with some nuisance issues.

Sorry for the long post. I hope these pictures help answer some questions I asked above.

Finally, thanks for the welcome to the family.

Craig

Nice post.. glad you like the boat, it looks good. I'm curious why the one motor wouldnt start for you? Check the pump intake and make sure nothing got stuck in there while you were driving.

What a buch of morons

This dealership sounds like it is staffed with complete idiots!!! These guys know a week in advance that you are driving 1100 miles round trip to come pick it up and when you get there it has mismatched wheels and tires, no bimini top, and parts of the seats missing !!!:boxing_smiley: Once I got the rest of the parts they owed me I would never have a single dealing with them again. Also if Sea-Doo sends you any kind of satisfaction survey in the mail make sure you slaughter them.

Having said that, for what you got the boat for I would be more than happy to smile and nod at these idiots, and grin through the pain of dealing with them for that kind of price. 15,000 is unreal !! I paid more than that for my 185 with the Merc in it USED. (and I could still sure as heck sell it for more than that up here)

Hopefully the no start is something simple and you get all the bugs worked out quickly. Once you do you I'm sure will love the boat. Docking and reversing will take some practice, but once you figure it out nothing handles like a Sea-Doo. Remember when in reverse unlike a stern drive the direction you turn the wheel is the opposite direction the stern will move. The bow follows the direction of the wheel when in reverse. That takes a time or two to get you head around if you are experienced with other designs of boats.

The boat looks great, have fun with it.

awesome, Craig,..darn thing had icicles hang'n from the fenders...BTW, couldn't help notice, but, your sidewalk, looks like it cuts right across the front yard...

Warranty work

Thanks Aaron, I'm gonna try and take it to a area Dealer today if they'll look at it. Hope to get this thing sorted out and ready to float for next weekend.

Timmy,

My subdivision has sidewalks throughout. Why they didn't design them closer to the street I don't know....Welcome to Flori-DAH!

Yea my experince was the same when I bought my 230 Wake. Its like the are selling so much that they are running around like chickens with their heads cut off. Which I wish all bussiness were doing this well. Did you see my 230 wake up there, it should have the cover on it? The boat looks great, not that i'm trying to take the blame away from the dealer they did have a week to get it together, but Sea Doo's fit and finish over the last year has s_ _ks. I had them sand the edges on my boat were the seats and storage areas i cut myself a couple times. Also Ken is the service man here is his info.

TVZ,

I met Ken(Both the service manager and the finance guy). I did see your boat there covered. Those 230's are awesome!!!!!!

After a day reflecting on my purchase and problems I had and still have to address I'm a little bummed but then again I didn't pay alot for the boat so I remind myself I have to be prepared to deal with getting these issues resolved. I'll be taking my boat to a local Florida dealer this week to get warranty issues addressed. If I run into trouble I'll have to call the BRP customer service hotline.

Great pictures Craig. I would raise the bunks on the trailer so the boat sits higher then it does. It doesn't take much water to float the boat on or off the trailer so raising the bunks should keep you off the fenders. The inter hatch cover doesn't have a holder, it just lays flat under the engine hatch for storage. I Think you 'll do well at Barny's Seadoo in St Petes.

Hey chief, just throw'n out there, but, and I know mines a 96", not sure if mine can be raised. The bunks' brackets have 4-hole-positions, so, would that raise the boat at all, or just give the bunks' a different spot to grab the boat? I find/think, is to install 4x4 or push the fenders out some?..or, believe the axle is underneath the leafs, so, install a 1in block between axle/leaf, to lower axle, than drop fender to accomidate gapping, then that might make up for the close tolerances?

It's easier to change the positions of the bunks. From the pictures the boat sits almost lower than the fenders. Have the dealer adjust them properly. After all, it is still under warranty. Don't even mess with it, let them do it.

Karl

First, I would like to congratulate you for your awesome purchase...

Second... 8 degrees?? Wait wait... We had MINUS 48 HERE without the windchill ;) It was around MINUS 70 with the windchill!!! So with an 8 I would be in t-shirt lol no joke ;)
