keeps running

I just switched out my electrical box for my 92 xp with a box from a 92 gtx. When I start the ski, it starts fine but when i release the kill button, it keeps running...then, when i hit the stop button, nothing happens and the ski continues to run...I had to pull the wires off the plugs in order to shut it off. Did i maybe miswire something along the way? anyone have a hopefully easy explanation of a fix? thanks
