Kawi-Doo X4 1200 conversion!

This is my new project. It is a '96 XP hull with a Kawasaki 1200cc 2 stroke motor. It has a Dominator 3 pipe, ADA heads, and R&D flame arrestors. It is converted to premix. It has a big hub pump with Skat Trak 16/24 impeller and custom sponsons.

I am going to put an Advent CDI, Carbon Tech Reeds, Skat Trak pump with XO prop and R&D 85/88 nozzle. I am going to use an Inventioneering, JD #16, or Worx grate. I also have a set of Worx and BH sponsons that I could try out along with the custom set to see which ones I prefer.

I would really like to see pictures of this bad boy, unfortunately the picture links aren't working. I can't imagine a 1200cc motor in an X4 hull.

Was this one on PWCT or GH, I remember something about the seller being wishy washy on the parts that were actually on it for what he was asking as someone went to look at it and parts were off it and swapped with stock parts.I stumbled on it doing a search one night and read all the bickering in that post. I could also be completely off base too......Get some pics up already!

Yup lets see some pix!

The pump is not going to do it...you need to get a 155 pump on it. Guys are doing 4tec pumps this year, if I were you I would be doing the same since the info is out there and current.

Yes this is same ski you saw Racer. It needs a little TLC, but the seller was straight forward with everything. I couldn't be any happier with the transaction. I don't know what that bickering buyer expected for 2 grand!
You don't think this Skat Trak pump is going to work well with this h.p. Minne? The future owner said it was modded and massaged by PJS. It looks brand spanking new and for $100 it seemed to good to turn down. I wasn't looking forward to modding the 155 mm pump to fit. The previous owner said he got 68 mph with a big hub 140 mm pump with a Skat 16/24.

68mph? I though you said he was straight forward and honest. Ha-Ha no I'm glad your gonna save it honestly.

You have to be honest with yourself with how big a can of worms you are opening up though. It took some talent to get the ski this far but they never finished it. The project got dropped when they started the tuning stage from what I understand

UPDATE - I just saw that it was Robinson that originally did the conversion. That guy is really good and there to help......you will be fine.

The main reason I posted this conversion on this site was for constructive criticism. So keep it coming! That way this beast will smoke yals 951 x4 conversions. lol The ski has been ridden before and tuned some, but not completely. That is where I step in. It is a solid built boat believe it or not. I happen to have 3 X4s 787s and 2 ultra 150s so this was the true dream boat for me. I could have gotten an X4 951 with all the tweaks worked out, but honestly I didn't want to deal with the electrical, fuel consumption and reliability problems.

Well it sounds like a match made in heaven then. It takes me race fuel to get an X4 in the mid 60's with a 787(just starting with 951's). You will have a nice rec riding sleeper that will surprise many a newer ski.

He edited the first post...Looks like a nice project!

As for the pump, run what you got and get it running perfect, then upgrade. A bigger pump will yield more speed, although most people say the hull gets to be a handful when approaching 70.

Its a heck of a sleeper right now, but I'd yank all the decals off and buff it up, put a nice seat cover and mats on.

If anyone has a 155 mm pump that was modded to fit an X4 for sale then let me know. I have an aftermarket seat cover and a brand new stock cover. I am going to leave it looking old and faded for right now to keep the sleeper look going. I can't wait to see the look on people's faces when there 15 grand ski gets smoked by this little old faded ski. If that sleeper look ever gets old then I will fix it up.

By the way does anyone want to take this '95 XP 800 Limited off my hands before I take the hump seat and hood off of it and ruin its originality? It is getting mighty tempting. I need a old school hood to help cut down on the weight.

I want it. How bout a Destin vacation?

Jettrim offers the hump seat mod and you can get a single gauge hood to paint cheap.

Pictures of said Spx please!! Lol I love seeing everyone's x4 creations

Long live the 2 stroke Seadoo!

What intake grate do yall think will be the best for my setup with top speed loss in smooth water being my main concern and hookup in mild chop being my second. It is my understanding that the Worx loses the least amount of top speed in smooth. The Inventioneering is rare and there is not much information out there on it. It is suppose to swirl the water into the pump without overloading the pump while making the pump perform more sufficiently. The Inventioneering seems to be the favorite right now b/c this Skat Trak pump is going to need all the help it can get b/c it is going to be the bottleneck of my setup. I want this pump to be able to perform to its best ability.

Always loved the inventioneering ones...great happy medium. I mainly run the Jet Dynamics ones b/c tonka is super rough all the time.

I would maybe try some of the old westcoast and ocean pro ones that dont top load. Just have deeper bars...

Theres a couple X-4 parts hoarders around here...wont name names or anything...lol that may or may not have a whole bin of different grates. ;)

It looks like it already has an old school Westcoast on it now. I thought they really didn't help much at all, but it may be my best bet b/c it won't put much strain on the pump at all.

It's all about the scoop... The bigger and deeper it is, the more it pulls the hull to the water

I got my hands on a 17/27 Skat swirl which was the impeller previously used on the ski. I am ready to finally put it in the water, but I noticed the top trim adjustment that adjusts the trim is blocked off. I am talking about the top nozzle connection that adjusts the trim up and down. I can always put the stock trim assembly on the ski, and I have an extra one laying around. I wanted to get yals advice first to see what I should do. Here is some pics of what I am working with right now.

If it's just flopping up and down and you want a quick solution you can add a washer under each collar bolt on the right and left side. I found plastic washers at ACE that fit perfect. After tightening you can still grab the exit nozzle with both hands and move the setting, the resistance is enough to keep it there until you move it again.

I got the trim fixed with something I came up with. I have a lot more problems to worry about than that. Matt was right when he said I have opened up a can of worms. But owell, I am a Kawi 1200 and x4 guy so it should all work out in the long run. The #2 cylinder is going to need to be rebuilt. I looked closely to how the water was running on this ski, and it was obvious that the previous owner threw some parts together trying to get a quick sale. The only water cooling line running to the motor was not hooked up. He had a damn carb jet and some other crazy stuff done to the stock pipe with a powervalve and stuff. It is not the same design as I have done to my '05 Ultra with the normal stinger mod. I think he was trying to copy the Dominator 3 pipe. So I have took that pipe off, and now I am using a completely stock pipe.
So the stock Ultra 150 to my understanding has dual cooling. It has one line that goes to the pipe, and a totally different 2nd line going to the motor. The stock X4 hull to my knowledge has one cooling line that runs threw the pipe and the head. So I have run that one line to the motor and "T" 'ed it off to the pipe. Do yal think this sounds right? I am not trying to win any holeshots, I just want a reliable running ski.
