So i've ridden Jet skis for about 7 years now, every summer up at my aunts. I'm not clueless, i've added oil and changed the spark plug, but i've never tore into one.

So i'm completely clueless when my aunt gives me one of her old ones that hasn't hit water for three years... and now i'm attempting to fix it. Obviously it needs new spark plugs and a battery, but beyond that is there anything general that i'm going to need new?

Second question, she said its on its second engine, and she said it would start, but it would eventually seize...

Above that any tips for painting a jet ski? I'm wondering if its the same as a car process, sand down smooth, prime, paint, clear?

Thanks for all the help guys

rrhall congrats on your ski. The first thing i tell people to do is get a maunal if your going to to do any fixes yourself you'll want a shop manual for you ski. usually you can get them off ebay for $5 and it's loaded on your computer. Just copy the file to a disk too. The next thing is make sure its got a littlw bit of oil down in the cylinder just pour about a table spoon of SAE 30 or lawn mower oil in the spark plug hole it will help with adding a little protection since the ski hasnt been ridden in a few years. The next thing check the compression of the cylinders they usually are around 150psi give or take a few psi. usually you'll want to replace the plugs, next thing install the new battery usually around $50 at your local carparts store. then youll make sure the ski has fresh gas and oil fire it up you'll might even want to run some carb cleaner like gumout or stp through to clean gunky gas. If the ski doesn't start check the fuses in your front electrical box and rear box and just check to see if their not blown. You'll also want to change the jet pump oil. Look at the theards form lvanek i put detailed instructions to chage it and it really easy. Painting i just rattle canned the bottom hull with paint and clearcoated and it looks great but you can get a little more speed if you wax your hull. Any questions fell free to message me.
