Just Died?

Hello I'm new to the website. I own a 98 XP Limited. My friend and I rode a little over three hours all day. On the way back to the dock, the chop in lake mead was double red-flag bad. We were airborne every few seconds. When I came down one time the ski turned off. I just got home and tried jumping it with my car starter (I know your not supposed to). When i put the key on no clicks, when I tried jumping it no clicks or sounds, nothing. Battery is good, starter is fine. I just serviced it last week. Is there something that could have gotten disconnected because of the constant crashing down on the water? I'm assuming is electrical, maybe a fuse? I tried a different battery, still nothing? Doesnt even respond to the start switch? Please help!

on top of everything also check your motor mounts from the bad waves....check all your connections and make sure they are all ok.

well you have a loss of power then, check all your connections/harness connections, check your main ground as well.

thanks, if there is a little water or water completely covering the ground wire does that short it out or is that fine? Im not very electronically inclined.

you could have blown a fuse if you had a wire short out, so you can check all your fuses as well but I do not think a fuse will be the issue. Take into account that it also might not have had anything to do with the waves, some things just happen at the same time as another.

how much water are we talking about? it will not hurt the ground....but did you have alot of water in your hull after it died?

if you had quite a bit of water in your hull then check your motor mounts, grab your motor and try to rock it back and fourth.

No, not a lot of water at all. I was just asking in general. I have the normal amout of water inside from riding. Im not taking on water. I know that at least, thank god.

I had a 97 XP I was rebuilding, and I could never get it to do anything, trid keys and hotwireing it. Well somewere I bumped the key post and beep beep it was alive... with no key. So after it started I bumped the post agin and everything died. Come to find out it was a bad keypost.
Not sure if that helps or not

Okay this is what i got; so i checked the fuses and found my 15 amp blown as well as my VTS 7.5. Now the VTS was blown for the last week so that is nothing of concern regarding it starting. I took out the blue fuse, tried to put the new one in (keep in mind my key is already on the post) and as soon as the fuse made contact, the bildge pump did its thing and then POP! the fuse blew. I replaced it again this time with the key off, I got everything ready and put the key on the post and nothing. I tried jumping it and not even a click. Now I'm really stumped?

Scratch that last post. I was reading another thread and found the other 15 amp fuse location in the starter relay box. It was blown so i replaced it. At this point all fuses were replaced and ready to test. I put the key on, again the bilge pump did its thing, then i hit the starter button. The motor started to crank but ofcourse my finger slipped off the starter switch. The relay fuse blew. from then until now i keep putting in new fuses back and forth between the relay 15 amp and the fuse box 15 amp. I have a short somewhere im assuming, is there a common area that this occurs.

check the east stuff first, vegas. All connections are good/clean, red cables and grounds. If still pop'n, then disconnect the VTS module, if still, then disconnect the stator assy wires, if pops stops there, then you 'll have to pull the mag cover off and inspect. If still pops, then maybe a bad rectifier, but that is built into the mpem, which that'll be a bummer...

Here's the update. I followed the advice and the popping of fuses stops at the stator. When I disconected the stator plug it didnt blow anything and was able to crank over. Can this actually pose a problem to my electrical system? The local shop is asking almost 300 bucks. I just want to make sure before i go purchasing unneeded stuff.
