Jet Ski Hoists and stands

We bought that exact set up last summer just make sure your stand, trailer, etc. has enough clearance to slide the hoist in under it. If you keep an eye out for coupons in magazines you can get that hoist for less than half.

People complained it didn't go very high. Have any issues with that? The ski on the stand I would guess is close to 40" or so high to the top of the engine bay.

Holy crap just checked......80" high! That's pretty freakin high.

No, the big issue was the clearance underneath to get the hoist positioned exactly where we wanted it. My workspace is kinda small width-wise, so sliding it out is kinda of an issue.

I know I have posted bits of this before but here you go.

I have the 1100# to lift my kids bounce house (a full rental quality one) It weighs 190# and the winch does it no problem and rolls effortlessly. I lift it roughly 12' in the air and then slide it sideways to my mezzanine where I store it. I also have an 880# unit still new in the box that I was going to put perpendicular to this one so I could do a transfer stuff to my work bench while working on equipment for customers. As far as a ski goes, I'd assume it could do it, but you probably want to lag into a few joists, not just one. I bought a sliding door track and rollers from my local Tractor Supply then bolted it on every steel beam in my shop(metal building, not wood construction) then used the trolley wheels sold there too. It's the bomb. I have pulled sled engines with it, used it for my XP engine, my Speedster engine IIRC. Here's some pics and the supplies

Dan, you have like my dream garage. Do you actually spend any time inside the house? If I was married my wife would have to drag me out of that place! Lol

This has been a dream of mine for a long time. I guess I spend a minimum of 8 hours a day in there. If I'm not on the road for work, I work from home, um, the shop. My wife is very understanding yet I know when it's time to come in.

No joke, seriously you have everything I dream of....Hoist, ATC(s), John Deere, sleds, Seadoo's, monster toolbox(s), ugh...guy can dream cant he! Lol. Oh and hey, I think everyone here would be more than supportive of you starting a thread to show the resto on that ol moto ski!

Ok, here's the thread. I have taken a different route than what I posted in that thread. It's hard to stay concentrated on a sled resto when you don't get all that much snow, it tough to have all the dough just sitting. I have picked up a 97 Skidoo that I will eventually add the front suspension to another sled like the Moto Ski that will look like a Moto-Ski. I really should buckle down and finish it. I consider their sleds mine since I do and pay for everything on them and my dad might take a lap around the farm. I have enough project for a life time.

Here's the Moto Ski now

And here's my little rocket ship--wicked fast (until it gagged the second time)

Here's my Mom's sled that I ride and my Father has a matching one (the one in my shop now) as well as my Yamaha SRX. I have WAY to many projects and I'm into way to many hobbies.

What the frig is that, an old set of TV tables and some shot Harbor Freight rolling seats? You know your a redneck... Sorry couldn't resist. I'm afraid if I look any long I might knock it over.

Ha Ha it started with 4 saw horse things I bought at an estate sale. I used an available 2x4 to make a short stand for $1. I put the blue yoga pad on to cushion it and it worked (kinda) but the rain still filled up my footwells despite the cover and when I lifted the front to spill it she came apart. Then I started grabbing whatever was close to keep it out of the dirt. That ski is about 3 projects back. When I was working on my avatar ski today I looked over at that and thought of this thread and couldn't resist.

Matt, I would have expected something better from a mod guy. I hope thats not your good ski.

Hopefully thats a Kawi or a Yami...Shame on you Matt if you did that to a poor seadoo! Are you sure the yoga pad isnt down there to cushion the fall so you dont scratch the hull when a light breeze will inevitably knock it down...

Hey boys I was looking for a laugh, not a scolding. I've had that wonderful 90 Seadoo ST (not a typo, yes I said ST) for over 10 years and I'm gonna power it next with an upright RAVE made by BRP for racers only built out of their 670 sled engines. The hull is not hurt, It is out of the dirt.

Lol just givin ya a hard time. Yeah, i actually read your thread over there on the PWCtoday forum. Pretty interesting stuff ol Bill wrote up about that upright rave!

Ahhhh that's what it was. My garage is pretty tight as well.

I think you would be good space wise just space that bottom board 4-6 inches higher and you can slide that hoist under there. Those hoists fold up too, still kinda bulky but not too bad.

There is lots of good upside right stands and dolly's that I see, anyone have an idea or pictures for what they do when you put the ski upside down to work on the bottom of the hull?

You can see the stand a buddy of mine built for working on hulls upside down. I'd only use this if the hull was empty. Also Put something over the wood to cushion the hull. It goes in the footwells.

You can see here I just used a sheet.

My engine is out but the gas tank and oil tank are back in, they cleaned out and empty so I should be fine.

That stand looks functional and easy, thanks for the idea.

well after some deliberation and 3 days worth of negotiation, I purchased the stand with the electric winch, it should arrive this time next week, just in time for my RX which should be ready by Monday :)

mmmmmm I need something like to get my ski off the trailer in order to get it weighed. :)

got any pics or a link to it?

lmao ! your still working on that !

any stand will do, two guys can slide that gsx off a trailer and onto a stand in about a minute, and that includes the handshake, and "do you want a cup of coffee?"

I might be willing to sell you my aquacart for $75 and and I think chuck has a bare bones wooden one that he'd sell for less, for the limited use you'll give it, you need just the basics, and the shorter the better, since it will stand up in the corner when not being used. edit: i'd probably be reluctant to sell my aquacart on 2nd thought, I really like it, and its height is perfect for the xp since when coming off the trailer I have gravity on my side and it can be done solo if you don't have a neighbor to help for 30 seconds.

this is the one I bought :)

296.jpg

spent more than I should have but much less than I could have. Its not needed for my xp but for a larger ski, it will be MOST useful. It might get loaned out more than used since both of my ride buddies have 4 strokes now, and i think this will be very very useful for moving a 4 stroke off the trailer for service.

now, what I SHOULD have done was just modify an existing stand with the winch post, but my stand is short so it won't work. i'm guessing the my ride buddies will look at this setup and then start looking for steel to make their own winch post on existing stands that are the appropriate height.

See the winch on the wall?
13.jpg

That's how I get my skis off the trailer. It's lag bolted over 6 times into the wall studs across 36" of wall space. Then another 2x6 lag bolted over 10x to the board bolted to the wall. Winch is through bolted to the other board as well as lag bolted through both boards and into the stud. Then use a ratchet on the winch to pull them off.

Suke, i want to build a stand like the one your Xp is on what materials do i need other than the 3" pvc pipe? how is the pvc attached to the wood?
