New to the site. thanks for the welcome.
I own a 2000 GTX with original impeller and wear ring. Last season ( from Colorado) I sucked up a good sized rock which not only gouged up my worn wear ring but also took a 1/2" x 1/4" chunk out of a plastic spline/ fin on the pump itself, impeller seems ok though. From that point on i've lost substantial low end. My question is after replacing the wear ring and using original impeller with proper clearance will I regain my low end without addressing the dinged spline/ fin?
Also I've noticed silicone being used instead of the multiple types of locktite . Must this be a marine silicone or can any type be used?

Thanks for the help!

Cavitating?...

The surface passages of the waters flow through the pump needs to be smooth. Any ding or flat edge on any surface that is perpendicular to the flow of water may cause cavitation.

When you remove the impeller to install a new wearing ring, inspect the impeller and stator vanes for damage from this rock. If you can smooth them out with a dremel tool or some other way of smoothing them out, then you might be o.k. ....The stator is built into the pump housing so you'd have to replace the entire piece for about $250. So, you'll probably just want to clean it up the best you can.............cheers:

Spine/fin?....

Yeah, I think your referring to the stator which is an integral part of the pump assy. ........
