Jet Pump Rebuild

Hi,

I am in the process of rebuilding the jet pumps on my 95 Speedster.

The boat has been stood for around 10 years and I have decided to replace the inner bearings (excluding thrust bearings as they look fine and I don't have any) and seals because I have the parts so may as well do it.

My main question is regarding the sealers, the manual says use loctite 515 although I believe this has been replaced with 518. Do I need to use such an expensive sealer or will a standard vehicle gasket sealer do the same job? The sealers i'm thinking of are used for sealing water pumps, sumps, rocker box tops and water housings etc so would this not be suitable?

A tube of the normal vehicle stuff is about £7 where the locktite is about £20 for a smaller tube.

Many thanks

Andy

The only place I recall using a sealer is on the "O" ring on the pump cone. I believe the manual calls for an anaerobic sealer, I use some Volvo stuff from work or a RTV sealer will work. Be sure to pressure test the pump.

Yes the double lip seal gets anerobic sealer like 518 as well as the o-ring for the cone.
