Jet boat in salt water

I was told if you leave a jet boat in salt water for longer than a week barnacle could get into the jet pumps and you will have to clean the jet pumps for them to work properly. Is this true?
I have a 2001 Sea Doo Challenger 14.

This should be moved to the jet boat section but to answer your question there are no more issues associated with the jet pump than a standard outdrive with propeller as far as marine growth is concerned.
