Is this statement true?

Is this statement true? :stupid: Two stroke (two cycle) engines, because of their design, do not need the spark to advance with increasing engine revs. Tick over (idle) on a two stroke works quite happily at the fully advanced setting used for full power, and as such, there is no need to have an advance and retard unit. This makes it very easy to fit almost any electronic ignition unit.

From what I know with playing with dirt bikes I would tend to agree. Two-strokes tend to be a bit backwards from four-strokes in the fact that increasing the timing will typically smooth out the power band and keep the engine from revving to it's peak rpm. Now if you retard the timing a bit you tend to rev much better and get more of a hit in the upper end of the power band. Increasing the base timing does tend to give a much better mid-range pull though (to a point).

Just my opinions.
