Ok, experts. I have a carbon ring kit from OSD that I have installed. The old C clip went completely under the floating ring collar. You could not see it when it was installed. The new one from OSD, floating ring and C clip are heavier and beefier. I did not think to put the clip into the collar before I installed it (my fault) to see how far it went into the collar. With it now installed, the collar will only come back over about half of the C clip. You can see half of it when installed. It will not completely cover it. I have wiggled and pulled and shaken it to see if it would go any further. It acts like that is as far as it will go. Before I take it all back off and check it out, I thought I would ask here and see if any one has purchased one of these from OSD and if this is how it now goes. I have sent a email to OSD today but have not heard back from them. Do not have a phone number for them. I have attached 2 pics so you can see how it looks. Any thoughts?

It should slide over completely. Check that clip and make sure it's completely in the groove. Did you clean the groove? I see some marks in the one pic, did you have pliers on it? I always grease the shaft up so it's slide nice and smooth.

I'm not trying to be critical, but that boat would never pass a USCG AUX vessel exam. You need to clean the bilge, that dirt and oil will eventually go into the lake.

Yeah it should fit better than that. There are several different clip sizes and for different motor drive shaft combos. If you can't get a replacement, you can use the old one. That is a part that does not fail unless you have a bellows failure.

Yeah clean that bilge. A happy bilge is a happy owner.

OK, update. I got it fixed. It was the C clip. It was painted gold and had a few burrs at the end of the clip. I sanded all the paint off and sanded the burrs and used the old collar to see how it fit. Just kept sanding it, until it went smoothly in the old collar. Put it back on, it was still a little tight but it did go back over all the way like it was suppose to. And this is to Lou, yes it is dirty, it has been under a tarp all winter and I haven't cleaned it yet. There is some old water still in there from last fall that won't drain. I didn't want to clean it until I was thru working on it. Once I am done, replacing my bilge pump now, I will thoroughly clean it. Like most people I can't stand a dirty boat, inside or outside. Thanks for all the help. Its nice to have a place to get answers to questions.

Not that you want to open it back up,,, but you should coat it with a small amount of grease. This will help in a BIG way in the event you need to take it apart in a year or so.

I did. I needed the grease to help it go on. There is a 'little' grease on the O-rings in the collar, on the C clip, and the pto bellows is full of grease. Just enough start pushing the drive shaft. I even put a tie behind the large bellows to force more pressure against the carbon seal. It is nice and snug against it now.

You probably don't want to ruin that cable tie behind the bellow. Osd made the stainless thicker.
