I'm trying to get a ski running. Found it wouldn't start. Opened up the electrical box and found water in there. Found voltage going to the starter solonoide coil when the start button is pressed. No clicking sound. Replaced the solonoid. Hit the start button ski fires up. I have water connected to the head. I rev the engine alittle bit. ski stalls out. Hit the start button again , nothing. Owner of the ski walks up and points out two things. Because I'm jump starting the ski with a car battery ,he says I blew up the computer in the jet ski. Also adds that the ski was sunk in the canal behind their house before I got it . Which explanes why theres water in the electrical box. Why wont it start? and Did I blow up the computer module in the box? I don't want to take this thing all apart to get inside the electrical box again . -------- Dave

Welcome to the seadoo forum Dave. If you jumped started the seadoo with a battery, or a jump box, than no you didn't do any damage to the MPEM,(Multi Purpose Electronic Module). If you used a car say, to jump start it or a battery charger, than you could have done some damage. The electrics of the mpem would receive a surge from another machines charging system and first blow the fuse and then possible damage the MPEM. It is possible that you have water in the fuel or in the engine. Check by pulling the spark plugs out and crank it over. Use the grounding studs to put the spark plug caps on, to prevent any problems to the ignition coils. See if it spurts out water. If it is clear than check the carbs for water inside them. You need to give us more information about you seadoo XP, like the year might be useful. I would add the model and year in your avatar, for future advice in the forum.

It sounds like you need to remove the carburetors and clean them. If you're careful and don't tear or damage the diaphragms you won't need to buy a rebuild kit. Pay attention to the internal filters too. If you have gray fuel lines you need to replace them with black fuel lines available from auto parts stores like Auto Zone. Measure the length you need and bring a sample with you so you get the correct size. Replace one at a time so you don’t get them mixed up. If you need clamps replace them too. Use small stainless steel clamps also from the auto parts store.

The High Speed screw is set to "0". These have a plastic cap on them to keep them from being turned any more than 1/4 turn. The Low Speed screw is set to 1 1/2 turns. The screw has a pin through it. If you need to adjust the idle speed do NOT use the low speed screws to adjust it. Use the IDLE Screw to adjust both carbs at the same time. When adjusting the carbs be sure both carbs are in sync.

I hope this helps.

Thanks, Heres what happened.

I finally got past my disgust and started working on the ski. No starter working. Got the electrical box out again and looked at the solonoid. Solonoid is getting 12 volts to start with reference to the engine block. Solonoid wont kick over. Found no ground in electrical box. Found electrical box gets its ground from a wire going into the fly wheel housing. Take the cover off the fly wheel housing. Woosh, 1/2 gallon of water falls out of the fly wheel housing. The ski was running at idle with water in there. Can't beleive it. Close inspection shows wires picked up by the spinning water when reving came in contact with teeth on the fly wheel, Chop, Chop. Ground wire severed, two others also.
Removed flywheel, stator. Repair wires. All back together again. Ski fires up. Water on the head, reving the engine up nice and high , sounds good. Water test this afternoon. Thanks again. Remember jet skis are not submarines. Keep that water out of the engine compartment. he he ------ Dave
