Newbie here. Put the boat in the water a few weeks back and it ran like a top. No problems at all. Then we sucked up a tow rope. Put boat on a trailer to cut out rope, no issues but when backing the trailer up the hitch detached and the boat (still on the trailer) ended up with the stern in the sand. Not a hard contact with no visible damage. Put boat back in water. Started up with no problems.

When accelerating after, we got an overheat warning. Figured there was something clogged with sand. Checked everything obvious at the stern - nothing. Restarted and ran for an hour with no problems.

For weeks now this pattern is repeating, sometimes you get an overheat warning and it won't go away. Other times, you get nothing and it runs fine for hours. Sometimes you can turn it off for 5 minutes after the warning and then it is fine; other times the warning keeps coming back.

I have checked the WTS and EGT sensors and their resistance is within spec. No visible leaks anywhere from the cooling system. If it was clogged somewhere I would expect to get the warning consistently. I am stumped.

I am having a similar issue and I think I tracked it down to a short in the MPEM... Do you get the same thing when you unplug the temp sensor?

I haven't tried that but I will now. Is that the engine temp sensor or the exhaust temp sensor? The last time I took the boat out it seemed that the warning was not constant but was a 2-3 second beep every 60 seconds or so. Does anyone have information on what kind of aural codes the boat has?

Code 5 is 2 beep 58 sec 2 sec beep.
Code 5 limits to boat to 5000r/min the code 5 is usually generated by a faulty or failed Throttle Position Indicator. I have ordered a new one to change out and hopefully it will cure the on and off again beeper and limp mode.

I’m having the same problem. Did the change of the TPS fixed the problem?
