Intermittent issue (electric?)

I'd say long term but I wonder it is hasn't gotten a bit worse lately. Hard to say but if I press throttle hard there will be a one second lag time.

I have been riding different skis lately (carbureted ), since I am working on them. Some take off from idle perfectly, others "my personal skis especially" Don't. One day I am gonna nail this down but it may well be a combination of things. With any engine, I like to get them up off idle RPM, say 2500 before I jump on the throttle. Each engine is gonna be a bit different but ya gotta love the ones that are smooth everywhere. Fuel injection is nice for that.

Maybe you need to tinker with the low speed adjuster a tad and raise the idle speed. Is it at 1500 in the water??

I know I had to raise the low speed screw by 1/8 th last year as it seemed to be running a little lean (it helped). Haven't touched it since then. Low speed is good from idle from 15 mph (approximately). I know that from experience because a Sea Doo dealer messed with my old carb in 2015 and the line between low and high speed jets was at about 15 mph (I ended up buying a brand new carb from OSD parts).

As for idle RPM, I believe it is just fine. My ski doesn't have a RPM meter but in 2015 I played a lot with it when my rotary valve was not set properly (long story, I am sure @mikidymac remembers...)...

Benji.

If I ever get these carbs figured out I'm gonna give myself a gold star. :) I learnin some shiznit though.... and I'm getting better. They're just not like any carbs I've dealt with previously and I've done a lot. Ha ha. :)

What are the chances that two terminal posts break in one summer? Issue returned yesterday with a vengeance. Checked my old key and it has some metal flakes in it. Tried the new key and was not able to reproduce the issue.

Guess this issue will be reported to next year as I took the ski out of the water yesterday. Our good fortune heat is just about to crash... Will keep my 4-tec close to the water for a few more weeks but my 2-stroke has had enough for this year!

A winter has passed since I updated this thread.

Last September, I had a few new occurrences of the problem after replacing the DESS post late July (ordered directly from a BRP dealer). The next day, I took my spare key (new) and I rode a bit on the lake without being able to reproduce the issue. But then I had to take the Sea-Doo out of the water for winterization.

So today I finally opened the handle bar cover in the garage to check the wiring connections that I made last year when replacing this DESS post as I wanted to make sure that my connections had not taken water. Last year, I had to cut and splice the wires to replace the post. I then inserted wiring shrinks before reconnecting wires (no welding). Then I used the shrinks and then I taped the whole thing with electrical tape.

As soon as I opened the cover today I immediately saw that no water had been there. Everything looked A1. I still removed the tape and saw absolutely no signs of humidity and oxidation. I did not break the shrinks because it had been difficult enough to put them there in the first place last year (not much room to work and lots of plastic surrounding the wires so I had to be really careful when shrinking the shrinks).

So using both keys alternatively (the old and the new), I connected them on the post (battery connected) and moved/twisted/pulled each wire one by one to see if the beeping would stop but no, I wasn't able to reproduce the issue of last September. The new DESS terminal still also looks brand new. Checked all the wiring leading to the MPEM and didn't find anything corroded, loose or anything else.

Anyone has more suggestions for me? Could it be the MPEM showing signs of fatigue? Last year, it was definitely the DESS post because I had the ski working correctly for two months before the issue started to come back again. Last year in July, it had come gradually and up to the point where the ski became unusable. The I replaced the post.

So I am not sure what else I could test today.
