This will be my first season with a 2007 c180. I am the third owner, previous couple only had it a year before they got divorced and sold it to me. Currently has 60hr on it but they were unable to tell me if the SC had ever been rebuilt. I have been trying to find evidence of removal (or not), such as witness marks on bolts, non factory sealant etc too decide if I need a rebuild ASAP- sounds like the original ceramic washers are not worth the risk.

If I could find evidence that they had been updated I would feel more comfortable waiting till 100 hr and doung it on schedule.

Anyone know of key places to look for typical clues on a rebuilt; OE vs aftermarket sealant, external hardware that would be replaced and identifyable etc?

Good rule of thumb is no proof get it rebuilt. Brp suggests every 2 years or 100 hours whichever comes first. Check out our rebuild service.

Or is there generally drive ability signs that give you an idea of the SC health or do they just blow put of the clear blue?

Typically loss of rpm and top speed. But they can fail pretty quick due to the bearing giving out or clutch washers letting go.

Definitely have the supercharger rebuilt. The boat is 10 years old and not worth the extra $5/6 grand to replace the engine if the ceramic washers blow.

You may lose no performance at all but a bearing or bearing cage can fail and then you are done. The engine would need to be pulled in order to get the parts that fall into the pan.

If I'm following the thread correctly ?

Engine has 60 hrs, you can't tell if the s/c may have been rebuilt...but planning to rebuild it at 100 anyway...?

Old adage comes to mind: "Better to be SAFE, than SORRY"

Downside risk (cost) just to eek another 40hrs seems to make this one, a no brainer.

PWC Muscle has "how to", step / step, vids to help you easily remove, ship, and reinstall.

Good luck

I know old post but just found.

Take my advice and learn from my mistake. Do it now, don't delay don't take word. Bought my boat from a former jet mechanic. His shop was spotless and organized. Said he had upgraded the bearings less than 10 hours before I bought boat from him, even handed me box of the shaft and washers he took out. Me not knowing anything about these boats took word. Long story short and several thousand dollars later. He had not changed the ceramic as my mechanic handed me a container of bearings and ceramic washer bits he pulled from my engine case after the sc let go and trashed my engine. $7k + and labor.
