Hello All,

Can someone confirm if this is the correct film to repair the info center gauge film. Working on a 99 GTX Limited.

Polarization.com

Or if a better know film/solution exist point me in the correct direction.

Thanks
Tim

I think the one the OP posted will work fine. But for one gauge the one Miki posted is cheaper and for sure will work. If you are planning on doing more than one gauge, buy the sheet as you posted. That is what I did and actually sold off small pieces of film for $5 or $10 to people on this forum. So it ended up FREE to me and a great deal to them

I bought a big ole sheet of that stuff, enough to do 6 or 8 gauges for like $20. I've done two so far... works pretty dang good. I don't like doing the gauges because they are so difficult to seal. I'm thinking I need to pull a vacuum on the container to dry it out. Lots of moisture in the air here in South Louisiana.

I have the information if anyone is doing a few of these.

Please share your information. I know I will be doing at least 1 for the daughters ski. And maybe have to do it again on another ski in near future. That is why I was asking about the sheet of film.

Here is the vendor I used for the Polarizing Film. It has the adhesive on the back. Difficult part is determing the best direction to install. I read that there is in optimum position to install the film where it will be most clear when viewing. Also from what I read you place the film on the gauge then activate the gauge and determine which is best. With this film You have 4 positions to do that since you'll be cutting it yourself. I didn't have any trouble at all getting this done. If you figure a a good way to do this please post up. Hope this helps. Good Luck!!

Polarizing Film Gauge Repair.jpeg

I repaired the infocenter on my GTX when I bought it in 2017. I bought a OEM polarizer for an older iphone that was not popular at the time and was therefore cheap ($3). My thinking was that these older iphones were overbuilt using high quality parts and lasted until the processor speed and memory size was no longer viable. The screen polarizer was larger enough to do 2 or 3 displays when cut. As far as putting it on, it had an adhesive back and the direction checked before cutting and applying. I do not remember if I checked to see if the image was any clearer if the film was rotated 180 degrees from the correct position. It has been fine since.

I made a video of part of me working on one of mine and cleaning the messed up melted glue from the original. Might help somebody. LOL Resealing the casing is the hard part for me cuz I'm anal about the moisture and any leaks. :D

Well pulled info center gauge today. Looks as it roasted thru to the second layer of whatever it is. Removed the film on outside of LCD screen and still a big brown spot on screen. Looks like I am going to be searching for info center gauge. Nothing on info gauge can be seen but the red led when put DESS on post.

Gene,

This is what my LCD looked like after cleaning the film off the LCD.

I think I can see a little something on the gauge using my polarized sun glasses. I am going to get wife to look at it and see if she see's what I saw. It looked like I saw 120? on it this morning. It may be worth the 20$ for the film to see if I can salvage it for a little longer until I can get a replacement.

Dodged that bullet. Wife says it clear as glass looking at it with her glasses on. Time to order the polarized film. The ski has 153.9 hours on it. So around 12 hours a year before it was parked or 7 hours a year for 22 years of life.

I had pictures of the last guage I rebuilt the spot was much smaller but as long as you can read the gauge I don't stress over it. Really all I like to have is fuel, oil level, and temp.

I made a few videos of me working on the gauge. I post them to my Po-Boys Facebook forum. You can see the gauge screen looks kinda like yours but the second video is the end result which I believe is more than acceptable for me. Good Luck. Personally, I wouldn't ask my wife anything about the gauge or call anything to her attention. That will alert her to a fault. :) Just say, I fixed your gauge. Even if it isn't good her appreciation for your effort will hinder her complaining or she might think her eyes are bad. :) Either way you win. :D

INFO Gauge Film - Video

Gene,
I checked out your 2 short video's. Will be ordering film tomorrow.

Have you done any F1 fuse repairs. My gauge is showing 0 bars on the graph and have about 7 gallons in the tank. I put the MM on the leads going into baffle and it is reading OL. So from what I have read online that is indication of a blown fuse.

Looking for the specs on the SMD fuse. Package size, voltage, amperage I believe is 250MA. I did not check to see if any voltage was involved on he circuit running to the baffle.

I have repaired 2 of the fuel baffles but now I just send mine off to a guy from Ebay. $50 and I don't have to mess with them. I keep complaining that I lost a lot of pictures due to my computer crash or I could show you where it is. I didn't replace the fuse I just completed the connection with solder. I sealed the cut out by placing the square piece I removed in place and using my soldering gun then melt/fuse the plastic together.

I don't have a great deal of experience with all this but I manage to muddle through. :) Good Luck.

Be really diligent about resealing the instrument. I have not yet decided the best method for me. If the air is humid, as it is ALWAYS humid in South Louisiana, then moisture will get trapped in the instrument when you seal it. When it cools you'll have moisture subliminate on the surface of the glass on the inside.

I'd be interested in knowing how some of you have managed to seal the face of the gauge. Good Luck !

Got another question on the Info gauge.
On the fuel level bar graph does it display the fuel level all the time regardless of the mode the gauge is in? Wife looking at the gauge with her polarized glasses she said she could see the bars when I jumped out the gauge wires. Then she said she could not see them all of a sudden but I think the ECU timed out as I removed the DESS and put it back on and she saw them again full graph which is what it should be jumped out I think.

Gene,

I was talking with my brother about the gauge and purging it. He suggest adding some type of nylon or plastic epoxied inside the gauge housing that can be drilled and tapped. Adding a schrader valve. Then pull a vacuum on gauge and if it holds that good hitting it with a little nitrogen. He said that should displace any moisture O2 in gauge.

I like the way your brother thinks. :) I don't think the port needs to be that strong because the rubber on the back of the gauge will leak. I think maybe just drilling a hole and inserting a line or grommet. I've done a few gauges and they all have moisture in them in the morning but it gets absorbed after it heats up. LOL I've been sealing the cover back in place with black silicone. I like keeping the chrome ring and putting it back where you can't see it was repaired. I'm scheeming about these gauges. LOL Gotta keep the parts coming for the old skis.

I have a nice GTX 1996 and the gauges are full of moisture. I'm wondering if when I remove the rubber seal from the back if I can try to get the water out that way. I seem to remember the info gauge is sealed in the front section. How about a couple small packs of dessicant and put them inside the gauge, replace as needed.

That would work also after they dried out good. Put I do not think the packs would last very long. You may be changing them few times a year. When I put mine back together I just going to let it sit in house few days and purge it with nitrogen as I assemble and seal it. Then pray it does not condensate to much.

I've done a couple of gauges that don't have much mositure in them so I don't think anything additional is getting in there, just what is in there from the time I sealed the unit. I do seal them pretty good. I think I'll take an old gauge that doesn't work and see what I can do with it.
