Impeller, Stator wear ring rebuild

Just had my impeller and stator worked on by Impros and they turned out great. The impeller was dinged up and one blade bent a little - the stator had damage to the leading edge of the vanes. The impeller came back looking new and they welded new material to the stator. The stator needed a little fine tuning with my dremel and paint, but it ended up like new too. I also did the jb weld treatment to the wear ring as described in earlier posts on this forum - with some sanding and a new coat of mercury black paint it turned out pretty good to - the clearance is now .030 - at the low end of the spec.

The total bill was just over 300 bucks and I'm really happy with the results. If you need impeller or stator work done, I'd recommend Impros, and the jb weld treatment really does the trick for scored wear rings.

Can't wait to get it back in the water!

surferdavet - how did the job come out? I'm getting ready to tackle the same job, and it sounds like my impeller and stator damage is very similar to yours. My boat (2001 Challernger 2000) will run great out of the hole when I'm light, but with 4 or 5 adults it cavitates. It will pull a tube or knee board, or a light skiier, but with a heavy 200lb+ skiier it cavitates like crazy. Is that similar to the issue you were havingwith the dinged up impeller and damaged stator vanes?

Works good!

mwz1500 - you asked at just the right time - I just put the boat in the lake for the first time since the rebuild over the long weekend. The hook-up was improved significantly. Before the repair the pump was cavitating pretty bad when pulling up adult wakeboarder with several people on the boat.

Now the boat had no problem pulling me (180 lbs) out of the water with 600 lbs or so of passengers on the boat. While driving there is no sense of high revs and slippage when you first accelerate. Now the limitation seems to be simply a matter of the horse power of the motor rather than impeller slippage issues.

I highly recommend getting the work done if you have dings in the impeller, chunks out of the front of the vanes of the stator, and wear ring clearance issues - to look at it as a novice, I wouldn't have expected the damage I had to be as significant as it was in terms of performance - thanks to this forum and others I was informed - with these pumps, tight specs and detail matter.

Also, if you use your boat in choppy water and haven't adjusted your ride plate down a half inch or so as described elsewhere in the forum - you should do that too - made a significant improvement on the handling of my Utopia 185 in the chop.

Good luck with your work - I'm sure you'll be happy with it.

Thx! I got home early today and took the Jet apart, man the wear ring looks bad, there are some pretty deep groves. And the impeller is pretty chewed up, as are the vanes on the stator. I took some pic and I'm going to send them to Impros to see what they can do. How deep of a grove can the JB wled fill, mine are about 1/8 deep I think. I can't believe how well the boat ran like this fro the past 4 years! I'm thinking about a new Solas impeller, does anybody have any experience with them?

I don't know about the solas impeller - looked around the different forums myself and didn't find to much feedback. Can say that the stock impeller came back looking like new from impros.

My wear ring had some grooves but not quite that deep. The JB Weld is pretty thick and tough though and I would expect it would fill the deeper grooves as well. You could give it a try for 15 bucks and decide then if you are satified with the results.
