Nice, thanks for posting your decision. If the gap between your wear ring and impeller was greater than the thickness of a dime you'll notice a big difference like between night and day.
I'm anxious to hear how strongly it pulls, mine planes and cruises just fine with no issues but I also need a little better hole shot b/c my boat is barely strong enough to pull me up on a slalom ski due to cavitation/airation My impeller has been replaced but I don't know what's in there, it's not original.
You can fill the oil reservoir in horizontal position on the bench, that should be near the same orientation as on the stern. I have some reservation about over-filling and of course I pressure leak check to 10psi as a check b/c if the oil does leak out the bearings will be toast.
I've had difficulties getting the fill plug to seal, finally went with some very gooey thread sealer I had lying around and no leaks this time. Make sure not to cross-thread the plug and just past flush should be good.
While out of water, place a dry paper towel in the pump outlet just below the cone and check it for oil wetness, mine was dripping from the fill plug every time the sun hit it and there was some water entering as well. I knew there was an issue b/c I could see a slight but persistent oil slick on the water while anchored.
