Hey I'm currently looking at a matching pair of 94 SPXs and one supposedly has an ignition fuse issue. I was just wondering if that is something you guys have heard about, and if it just a simple fuse to replace. I have not even seen the jet ski, this is just what they guy told me over the phone. Also they're the white rotax engines.

Thanks!!!

Fuses are on MPEM inside grey E-box. That box slips into the floor shoe and snaps. Pull the shoe tab towards rear to unsnap the box.
Open hood n remove basket to see if your zip ties on the wires are preventing you from pulling the box up to sit on stator where you could then unclip the box tabs and open it. Take battery out helps.
5amp is mpem, 15amp is e-system protection fuse.

Okay thank you! I was just wondering if this was a reason for the jet ski to not start, which I would assume it would be. Just didn't know if it could be as simple as a fuse or not.

If you do not have Spark, diagnose and read your shop manual. Open it and hope its just a simple fuse.
Your battery should be above 12.4v to energize the mpem timer. Make sure wire connectors are tight, ground lug is snug.
Have the Rats eaten the wiring? E-box full of water?

If that "owner" said a "fuse" issue, he knew the MPEM was bad. (5A blown)

The MPEM (multiple products electrical module) has an Automotive Transient Suppressor Diode (MR2535) that shorts if the ski is jump started with a car or truck with the motor running, its Alternator just "over loads" the mpem, fries the one-way diode, OR if the battery is connected in reverse polarity will also fry the diode.

If you are handy with circuit boards, the diode can be replaced, and re-potted.

OR you can send your mpem to Minnetonkaforme for a matched replacement, or try Ebay.

So it sounds like if that diode in the MPEM is fried then it will not start. Is there a good way to tell if the MPEM is shot?

Isolate the stator charging system. Check it for short to ground. Procedure is in repair manual. Which you can down load free off the Internet. If it's like by 2000 GTI's the circuit feeds through the stator. I just went thru this problem last summer. Check the wire harness and make sure no bare spots rubbing on metal. You can buy used many parts off the Internet. Which saves major dollars.

So you're saying to check if a MPEM is bad is to check for a short to ground from the stator charging system?

Check the charging stator first. It is much cheaper to replace. It's not a real easy job. But ask us how to do it. I just did it. Do not throw parts at a problem. It will just piss you off it is NOT the problem! I went through the same problem with my 2000 GTI. Also make sure the fuse and holder are good. If the relay, coil, fuse box has ever been full of water, you may have problems with shorts and inconsistency of functions wth the systems.
