I would not recommend an SBT motor

Dennis - Thanks for the info. Yeah, may that's what he did and SBT told him that. Who knows for sure.

BJake, you must be confusing me with Sanduskybuddy from Penn State. End of discussion.

I bought a 787 Rotax from SBT in May of 2006. Today, 5 years later, it still starts and runs perfectly.

Thanks SBT!

I agree. Most of the time, when someone buys a reman motor, they never really find the root cause as to why the other motor blew. When this is the case, about half the time, the new motor they install, blows too. Then, the first line for them is to bash the motor quality and who did the work. If you have a set of carbs and the MAG carb went lean and locked up your motor; the next motor or all those thereafter are going to blow to.

I've used many, many of SBT's rebuilt motors and only had one turn back and SBT gladly honored their warranty because of a problem with a wrist pin clip.

alot of us around tampa bay area use sbt alot, 30 miles away, 30 miles back, 2 hrs later, ur runnin, my friend at work has a ski like mine, 1 yr newer, 2000 gtx rfi has had 1 in his ski for year and a half now, no problems.... was i believe 900.00 then for an 800 rfi, not bad

I bought a 787 rfi motor from them and at around 20 hours the oil pump driveshaft broke and toasted my new motor. I called them up, told them what happened, and they exchanged it no questions asked. The only thing that sucks was the turn around time, but getting a new motor for something that wasn't there fault you really can't complain.

guess ill bring back this thread, lol, bought an sbt motor tuesday, dont really have time to do much on it till maybe this weekend, although tonight i finally open up sealed, packaged box, looks really nice, all bolt holes have good threads, no helicoils, no welds on case, so, i put in all fittings, came with 2 new oil fittings, new raves and new rotary shaft, i installed rotary gear (timed it), installed mag cover, flywheel, pto, its all painted real nice, -- but -- probably wont get it in ski till probably sunday, -- (no time) -- but, you know me, some of u, lol, if its not good, ill probably post something about it -- lol... but man, it really looks like a real nice job... anyone out there have good experiences lately with sbt ????

Thats great man. Can't wait to see pictures of finished product.
Report compression numbers if you can.
That was a quick turn around too.

Yes griz, my white 787 blew after finding a mouse nest in the top carb hole. Don't trust family sometimes. My stupidity for not rebuilding/ checking anyway. But I did purchase a sbt silver 787 with the 2 year warranty and it's ran like a dream. I ride aggressively and for about 3 seasons here in ri. (with grey lines) tbh.. I would definitely put another sbt in any future machines I build, and check sbt's site for pricing. Cheers

I have used SBT for tons of parts for my brp 2strokes and 4strokes. Never had any issues, always super friendly knowledgeable staff who ship stuff quick. I would kill to have a shop like sbt up here where I can just walk into their shop and get the parts they stock. 2 year warranty on blocks for a little extra ... and people complain????? Some guys just don't know what they got. You can pay 5times the price for a rebuilt from brp up here and get half the warranty.

I recommend them for sure! I just wish that the shipping and Canadian Gov't werent such thieves and hosing me at customs.

My $0.02

I know it's an old thread... but I'll throw in my 2 cents.

I've bought a few engines from SBT. Most of the time, it's when someone is looking to get running as cheap as possible, becasue I can swap an engine for a lot less $$$$ that doing a rebuild in house. I don't mind building engines... but the customer has to know that I will only use quality parts, and my price for the engine will be almost double. (Good parts + my labor)

With that said... it's like any company. A good rep can be built simply from the person on the other side of the phone. the "No Fault" warranty should be just that. If I tell them I put a hand full of sand in the engine to see how long it would run for... then they should take it back. (extreme... yes. But no fault is no fault)

I've never had an issue with a seadoo engine... but... I did have a Polaris 3 cyl that would not start. After checking things (like the ignition) I come to find that they built the engine out of index.

So... are they perfect??? No. BUT, you are going to have problems with any shop like theirs that does huge volumes, and probably doesn't pay for the best people on the assembly line.

Needless to say, they took the engine back, and compensated me for my time, since I was an industrial account.
