I want to go look at this boat...

I just looked on the map, if you were closer I`d say come look at a clean challenger so you can get an idea!...

happy shopping! it`s always fun looking for something new or different...

Yeah that is something I wish I could do.

I know my friends have some similar but newer boats however their solution to fix something is throw money at it. (I need a Federal Government job) I like the DIY approach simply because I can save money, lol. I'm just hoping someday I can be an owning member of this website.

be careful what you ask bc knowing how to repair something can still get you in trouble!:lols:

My boat was supposed to be turn key, the last time I wrenched on that particular boat was back in 2008, to my surprise it was far from turnkey, but we are well past that now, and the Misses simply said, do what you doo and fix it, then the 500 man hour project started and then some... and it didn`t stop there, trailer recon, winches and tires/mag wheels on and on and on, and now just installed a fixed mount DCS VHF radio hooked to my Lowrance GPS, a necessity when underway in unfamiliar waters!

so, be prepared to spend, have no extra time, but the ride when your done is priceless...

If I find the used pontoon I want, I`m sure the madness will start all over again! lol

Make sure the trailer is galvanized if you spash it in saltwater, whatever you choose. That and aluminum are the only two that can survive saltwater.

waterluvr - I think the valve stem corrosion issues were taken care of by 2006 but don't quote me on that b/c my memory is terrible sometimes. There are some threads on the subject here.

Thanks for the help guys. I just got off the phone with the guy from the 3rd boat I linked. I may go see him Friday and get taken for a ride. The sound system seems to be pretty serious and he was stating it has a $250 AGM battery in it. He says it runs and he if he doesn't sell he is planning to take it with him to vacation which I guess is a good thing...? If I do go out on it what are some things I should pay attention to specifically the motor. I guess rpm noise? Struggles? 1 engine starting or stopping when not supposed to? I'm pretty noticeable to details and I don't want to hear something odd and think the boat is trash when it's normal operation, lol.

It shouldn't take more than two tries to start the cold engine, cold engines will need choke but warm/hot engines will need no choke. Stop warm engines and wait 10 minutes, then they should still restart right away very easily.

NO HESITATION during acceleration, no quitting or dieing out, no nursing throttles to keep engine running.

And, don't forget, you need to check the compression and confirm it's very close to 150Psi(787/720 motor), 120 Psi is an engine in need of immediate rebuild and really anything less than 150 Psi is suspected rebuild, it's indicative of a damaged piston. Seems like they either blow ~150 or they blow 120 and less.

For $8k, you can expect a boat this boat should be in great cosmetic condition, the vinyl seat covers should not need replacing and all hardware should be tight and in place, no missing parts or ugly cracks in the gel coat.

Check that all gauges work properly and the controls work smoothly, the steering motion while on the trailer should be smooth and easy, the forward/reverse shifter and throttles should not bind. While underway, steering will require more effort than if the engines weren't running, and some pull to the right is normal and expected.

See if the fuel lines around the carburetors are gray colored, if yes then they need to be replaced b/c the gray ones are carburetor cloggers.

Look the wiring over, and the mounting of the stereo, sometimes people are sloppy when running cabling for stereo systems and hacking up the original harness is a no no.

Look and see what kind of 2-stroke oil he's using, it should be preferably XPS2 in the yellow jug, some people run Amsoil API-TC and that should be fine but if he's running an outboard engine oil then the entire oiling system needs to be flushed and the correct API-TC oil installed.

So ask to see his 2-stroke oil and if it's the right type see if he will let you have the rest of his jug(s). You don't want to see TCW-3 outboard oil, it's not the correct oil for these motors.

He actually has been using the Seadoo stuff. He also said any tool and left over fluid he has he would give me (over a gallon left). He said over the 3 years he has owned it used very little oil.

FYI, SD offers a synthetic blend oil in the black plastic container and the XPSII full synthetic in the yellow container.

Yep, thats the good full synthetic stuff and it looks like a bonus engine alignment tool. I'll buy that from you if you'd like to part company with it after you acquire it :)

Hahah, I still got to decide this is something I really want to (as far as money concerns go) and if everything goes ok with a test.

used very little oil? I`m hoping that`s wrong, bc oil injection will use oil, just not as much as premixing.
sounds like he didn`t take the boat out much if thats the case.

I can't quite remember exactly what he said but it was something like he bought the 2 gallons when he got the boat and he has a whole gallon left and some of the second bottle. I think he has owned for 3 years.

That boat had very little use then in 3 years then.

You know what? That's pure novelty, I mean I get it been there and done that with offshore racing boats back in the time of sub $2.00 gallon 93 octane fuel but at the end of the day the young guy that can afford to take the pretty lady out for dinner and drinks he met on the sandbar that day still wins. Us old guys have been there and done that, water toy's that stretch the limits of your disposable income can become not fun to own in a real hurry and those same friends might not be boating in another year or two for that very reason.

Just something to think about, there is little in life better than a day out on the lake with your toes in the sand somewhere sunny with the boat anchored, getting there at 35 miles an hour versus 50 doesn't matter at the end of the day.

This mindset is why I recently purchased my 06 Sportster with the single 4 stroke 155hp with no intention of a supercharger.
Doubling your engines certainly doubles the potential failure and a SC will add power as well as additional concerns.

Years ago several friends and I did a lot of bass fishing weekends; we all knew the same spots and I spent enough and was fast enough in my 20 bass boat to be one of the first ones to them... I understand the nature of not wanting to have the slowest boat in the group but you don't have to be the fastest either. You will find a lot of enjoyment on a plane running between 30 and 40mph or you can opt for the 45 to 55mph but consider the 7000+ rpms you will be running while to are there. It is all about priorities, speed simply cost more and for some it is a priority.

You own a boat yet, what's the hold up?

You're never strapping on a flyboard without a pump to attach it to, man I would give anything to be young enough to do that!

Haha no not yet. I wish. I'm actually watching some of the prices on boats I was interested in drop on Craigslist while also trying to save more to put toward it.

BOAT = Break Out Another Thousand, I've hung my keys on that saying since Carter was getting lost in the White House Drapes. They haven't gotten any more affordable since then...

He might as well go all in and just own this, it comes with a flyboard system! -I had no idea such a thing even existed. http://indianapolis.craigslist.org/boa/4568664973.html

He's trying to sell that one b/c there are some newer ones out that are much improved. One of the problems with that one is the water exits from under your feet, so it's hard to maintain your balance, later ones the water exits higher on your center of gravity, more like a jet pack.

And the newest one is even a better design but I've only seen it once and can't remember the detail but it's much better.
