I want to buy a 2005 seadoo speedster 150 215hp. How good or bad are they?

I got some pictures and it doesn't look as good as on the smaller pictures. Scratches everywhere, he wrapped the hood's and lids in carbon and it looks old, faded and has rips and is letting loose here and there, so the red paint under it must be faded, because why else would you wrap them? Then a speaker between the seats looks shot, the bottom of the hull
is brown, so it's not a boat that was taken out of the water each day i gues. The wake tower is repaired, because he told me
that they crack at some points ( i did read an topic about that on this forum) and when i see it right ,the lcd display doesn't work propperly eighter, so the more i look at it,
the more i'm starting to dislike it. The only plus point is that it doesn't have about 250 hours on it but only 135, so what would you all do?
And can anyone tell if this is a real wake edition? Because i also did read that non-wake editions with an aftermarket wake tower have weaker mounts, and then the polyester
should be made thicker/stronger at the inside of the hull.

Now for some pics, so please tell me what you all think of it, and if i should buy it anyway, or walk away from it?

Toilet bowl cleaner and hydrogen peroxide in a spray bottle will will take that brown alge off the bottom. You tube it plenty of videos.

Thanks, i just decided that i'll take the boat. Those scratches can be polished, and maybe im going to take of the old decals and add a new design, and re-wrap the old
carbon wrap.

That boat doesn't need much. Get the supercharger rebuilt with Oem parts. Check the oil dipstick for water. Will you be able to water test?

i did speak to the owner an hour ago, and he must check his ensurance/licence and/or whatever it takes to take it on the water. I will do a compression test too
and check the oil stick ofcourse. Question, is it possible to manipulate/mess with the running hours on the display? Because i like to know if those 137 hours are for real.

The wake tower has bin repaired, but by a 12 year old i gues, so another job to be done.

can anyone tell me what impeller and wear ring this boat has and where i can buy them? Because
i wouldn't be suprised when that needs to be replaced too.

I walked away from it, because the final straw was that he said that a test run on the water was not possible, and i'm not going to spend about 10k on a boat without a testrun.
Not to mention that crappy fix on the wake tower, because that looks like a mess, and al the other crap that needs to be done, so it's not a used boat but more a abused boat
that wil need at least 3000 euro's to fix.

i wrote him that i might stil want it when he lowers the price another 1500, but he rejected it, but i also wouldn't be suprised
when he would mail me within a week to come and get it then, so let's wait because this might be not over yet.

i found a 2006 yello/white/black model that looks very good at first sight, no abnormal scratches or ripped seats, has seen fresh water only, 175 hours runtime,
and it has a stainles steel tower and comes with a 2016 trailer, and for way less money that the previous one.
The only thing is that it has the 155hp engine, so the same engine as the 215hp and 255hp model, but without the s/c, am i right? Now i'm not into racing against
time or other boats, so i don't mind a slight slower boat, but how much slower is this 155hp engine compared with the 215 and 255 versions?

No idea, but my 215 does about 53 mph on the cluster. I have not used gps yet to see how far off the cluster may be.

I had a 2006 White/Yellow Sportster with the 155hp. It was pretty fast and required very little maintenance. It was great on fuel. My 215hp challenger uses about 50% more fuel per outing but I still wouldn't consider it to be terrible.

If you're going to do alot of towing you'll probably want the 215hp. But just for going out and ripping around that 155hp moved well. Keep in mind that a typical 17.5 bowrider most likely has a 140hp 3.0L with an outdrive. So your seadoo will be faster than that with 155hp in a ~16' boat.

More power is always great....but the 155hp NA engines are considered almost bulletproof.

This is what mine looked like. It was well used but clean and well maintained.

To answer your speed question. My 155hp did 47mph with 3 male adults a cooler full of "beverages" and a full tank

Solo on a great day with 1/4 tank. I hit 60mph

I think Jcamaro said it right, if your towing the 215 or 255 will give you the jam (bottom end torque) for doing just that. But if you are just cruising no real difference in a couple miles on the top end.

Thanks for the replies. So a 215hp sucks about 50% more fuel then. The seller claimed that his boat would take between 2,5 and 5 gallons an hour.
Not that i would believe that, but when i mix these 2 story's together, then i gues that it would do between 7 and 10 gallons an hour, and that would be
fair enough for me, because gas prices are 7 dollars a gallon here in holland, so a little less gas guzzling is always welcome at these rediclious prices.
Me and my friends are around the age of 50, so we wil do ride on a inflatable towable now and then, and not faster than 30/35mph, so i gues that
this boat is just fine for that, and when i want more power in the future, then i won't loose money on this one, because the price isn't too bad,
so i wil send the owner a mail for more pictures, and see if they are as good looking as the ones in the add.

The 155hp gets you 47-50mph gps. 215hp 55-57 gps. Cruising at partial throttle settings 20-35mph-ish, the mpg difference is not going to be noticeable. But spirited driving with full throttle bursts abundant, the supercharged motors will suck down noticeably more fuel.

There are 2 people before me who are interested in the boat, so this one wil be gone after this weekend for sure. Never mind, this was the second boat
i found until now, and i'm not in a hurry to buy one right now because it's the most worse time to buy a boat, because the summer has officialy started
a few days ago, so the prices are at their highest right now.

Sounds like maybe you dodged a bullet!

I have to agree. it sounds like you made the right call. it may seem like this was your only chance to get one of these but take your time and wait for the right one. I have an RSS feed for kijiji on my phone for this. I don't know how popular kijiji is in your area but for mine there are boats all year

the market for jetski's and jet boats here in west europe is way smaller than in the USA, so they are not for sale on every streetcorner here.
Import one from the USA is also not an option, because then i would have to buy one from pictures and believe everything the seller says,
and not to mention the shipping cost and taxes. And i just start looking for a boat, so i can wait.

The boat is already for sale again, so i wonder why the new owner does sell it so quickly. i gues it's about profit because he wants 13500 for it.
Anyway, i found another one, and got al the pictures i wanted and i bought it over the phone and going to pick it up next week.
It's a 2008 model but it stood in a showroom until it got sold in 2012, and i bought it from the first owner. It has only 75 hours on it
and it looks as new and comes with a 2500 dollar trailer, and a original seadoo bimini top that was about 1000 dollars, but
with a yello color, so i'm going to sell that for half the price, and use that money to buy a waketower and a small bimini that fits on
the tower and some speakers.
