That's exactly what I would do. Brush kit and a bendix.

Any web sites that would give me a walk through on how to remove the Bendix from my starter. I have it taken apart and the brushes need to be replaced and it needs to be cleaned but I can't figure out how to get the bendix out

This is nuts the only seadoo dealership with in 150 miles of me can't get me an OEM starter all they can get is aftermarket

I see that there are a few YouTube videos that show a Seadoo starter tear down.
Yea I watched most of them and they really didn't tell much but I think I got it now I just have to get one clip off the drive and I think I got it tore down thank u all for the help

My starter was engaging just fine but just stopped working last weekend. I took it out and replaced the brushes and now it works, but I noticed the gear goes out and then comes back in on the shaft. How can this have been working before (never disengaged during starts) but now seems it will? I haven't installed it yet. Could I have put it back together incorrectly?

If on a bench, the bendix (gear) is supposed to only engage for a split second, then spins back into the housing. If it stays out, there is something wrong. If is mounted to the engine, it will engage the flywheel and that will keep it out until the motor starts or you let off the button.

Here is a thread that we were talking about the other day. Answer #6 answers (hopefully) your question.

Thanks scrisp. You were correct. Installed the starter with the new brushes last night and the ski fires up better than ever!
