Hello all, I am getting my 97 speedster ready for another cold michihgan winter. I got the jet pump oil changed and am now ready to fog the motor and get the anti freeze in the cooling lines. But i am unsure how to get the anti freeze into the lines the proper way, also what line to put it in. Does the engin need to be running or not for this as well. Any help would be great.

Plug the outlet in the transom... and pour the anti-freeze into the flush port.

After that... I normally start the engine, and hit it with the fogging oil. That way... if any anti-freeze got into the engine... that last run will blow it out.

Dont forget to put in the fuel stabilizer, and run it for a few minutes, to get it into the carbs, before doing the anti-freeze.

Here is how I was taught to winterize. Your mileage may vary.

Remove the cap from one of the flush ports by unscrewing it from the chain. (By the fuel or oil cap on top.)
Use it to cap one of the outlet ports on the transom.
Pour 3 gallons of RV/Marine anti-freeze into a 5 gallon bucket. This should be enough to do both. (~$3.25 gal for the pink -50 degree stuff at WalMart)
Drop a utility pump into the bucket. ($42 at Harbor Freight. It comes in handy for general pumping duties around the house too)
Hook a small garden hose from the pump to the flush port on the same side that you've capped.
Spray the impeller and wear ring with some soapy water (never hurts when you are running out of the water)
Start that engine and turn off the fuel for it.
Plug in the pump. You want to see pink coming out of the exhaust, the jet pump and the check hole for that side by the rear grab handle. (If you are winterizing a cabin too, you can catch that and pour it in the sinks/toliets)
Unplug the pump.
While then engine is almost out of fuel (it'll start revving fast) spray some fogging oil in the intake hole (under the rubber plug on the carb cover) to get some fogging oil in the carbs
After the engine dies, pull the spark plugs, spray some fogging oil in the cylinders and bump the starter to distribute the oil.
Repeat for the other side.

This procedure is probably overkill but why take a chance?

Great info , you guys should make Rob's post a sticky! oh, and for those of you that dont wanna spend the money on a pump, just get a piece of 3 foot hose (with threaded end, and a huge funnel.) screw the hose into the threaded coolant inlet on the pump, and seal the funnel to the other end of the hose, Stand on the back of the ski (assuming its hitched)start it and dump the antifreeze into the funnel making sure to hold it about 2.5 3 feet above the swim platform. works just as good as a pump for about 10 bucks instead of 40. you will also only need 1 gallon of AF to do this. I get the marine grade stuff good up to -50 degrees...........it only ever gets to about 10 at the coldest here in Northern Ohio in the winter, but why take the chance?

I do something similar to MILMARKER81except I connect my utility pump to the transom flush port. Everything else is the same.
