how to check doo b4 i buy

hey guys im gonna be purchasing a 96 gtx from my friend real soon for 500.00 with trailer he owns two other 07 seadoos so he doesnt need this one anymore he had alot of work done on it the problem is it was done 2ys ago he said he soaked the cyl. with wd-40 dont know what else how do i ckeck to make sure its not locked up or anything is major he said the battery is dead and the throttle stuck open when he pushed it the ski was not on ...

please help never really seen the inside of a ski before ...
 
so i should bring a battery and socket for the plugs and try to spin over that way or should i try to just spin shaft or pto if so where is the pto or shaft and what tools would i need to do this
 
You defiantly want to see the engine run. Do not buy it if you cannot get a compression test on the engine, and do not buy it if you cannot test drive it.

You can get a compression gauge at an auto parts store for cheap. You'll need a spark plug socket and a ratchet. Do one cylinder at a time.

Take both plug wires off and hook them to the grounding post.

Remove both sparkplugs.

Start with one cylinder, screw the end of the hose from the gauge into where the spark plug goes. Turn the engine over a few times while holding the throttle open. Relieve the pressure on the gauge and do it a few more times.

Repeat with the next cylinder.

Ideal compression should around 150psi. Main thing is that both cylinders are the same or within 10%.
