How important is a smooth and take face on 720

I have a new motor and rotary valve. The intake face has some grooves..contemplating running it so I can get this boat there together

As long as the grooves don't meet from hole to hole, the surface is good. Just extra pockets for oil to accumulate...if grooves go from hole to hole, the conclusion is hard starting/no starting

Take something like this and make a bunch of small circles within the intake face. Don't remove too much material just disrupt the groove from port to port is there is one. If the groove is too deep this won't work.
