How far are you guys from the dock?

Just curious here I hear some stories about guys driving 1.5 hours to get to the dock!

Me personally, I'm about 7 minutes from my house to the dock..

Depends on what lake, or body of water I want to go to. I'm 1-2 miles from my local ramp, 20-30mins from another lake, several lakes within an hour or so, and 2.5 hours from the beach.

Really depends...if i feel like just hitting the ol nasty ohio river im 20 minutes away. A halfway decent lake is 45 minutes. The lakes i prefer are both 2 hours from me. I go at least 2 or 3 times a year there.

the nearest dock is 1.4 miles away, its in a bad spot on the river and parking sux big time,I've never ever used it, but on my nightly walks sometimes I walk by it..then they have to disconnect their trailer and park it side by side with their car/truck, or have a buddy park it about 1/4 mile away and walk back. (duly noted, 90% of wives refuse this job, they wait on the boat while the man hikes the 1/4 mile) terrible terrible set up.

2nd is 4.5 miles away, i have an annual pass for $50 (10 per use normally) its also in a bad spot on the river, I barely get my moneys worth out of the $50.

3rd is 20 miles, I go there 25 times a year, its a 35-40 minute drive, its on a GOOD spot on the river. $30 annual pass (3 daily) and I get more than my moneys worth... its not my 100% favorite, but its really close to my two ride buddies houses...

4th is 26 miles, takes me about 45 minutes, I go there about 10 times a year, its on an EXCELLENT spot on the river, but its a 45 minute drive for my ride buddies vs 10 minutes for spot #3.. so.. we go to spot #3 75% of the time. you pay 75 cents an hour at the ramp...and the debit/dollar thing is always broken so you have to bring a farking hand full of quarters... but its by far some of the best boating within a 50 mile radius

about 6-7 time a year I travel between 1.5 and 3.5 hours each way to a different spot, just for a change of pace.

Before I moved,,,, ten minutes and I could be backing down the ramp. Now it is 30 minutes.

I sure do miss how close and easy it was before,,,

There aren't any inland lakes close by. I have a choice of two rivers very near. I also use the state accesses on Sandusky Bay and Lake Erie which are about 1/2 hour away.

35 Miles or just about an hour how ever you want to slice it to my closest drop. Or just over 2 hours to get to the Jersey shore, my favorite spot to ride.

Our favorite spot is Higgins Lake.....180 miles 1 way. We are like Minnesota jr though, we have lakes like every 20 miles and then there a clusters of lakes too. Lake Huron is close too. Head out there on a stormy day and it is like deadliest catch.

Im one of those guys 1 hour 40 min to nearest dnr lake its $20 per year per ski. Its around 2,500 acres I have to drive over 2 hours for 5,000 acres. The closest lake is 40 min away its $30 each time you drop a ski in and ill be dropping 3-4 each time its aound 1300 acres so its like a puddle to some of you guys. It gets very busy and 1 dock so I stay away. Id like to make it to great lakes this year or put in bay/ sandusky area. There actually in debate for making a lake in my city it would be 2100 acres 7 miles so it would be narrow. It would help my city, value of my house and my fiances parents house would be waterfront so im all for it

We are very fortunate, there is water all around us.

Niagara River 2 ramps less then 5 min
Lake Ontario 3 Ramps 10 min
Lake Erie 2 ramps 20 min

We also do a lot of boating/riding at our place in Northern Ontario, that is 3 hrs away.

Back when I used to live w/ the fam, I was spoiled by a good, free ramp just 2 miles away. The time it took to get there largely depended on how excited I was (what I was towing :) ) Now-a-days I'm about 18min from one lake and about 25 from another, and within an hour of a third, unexplored lake. Once I break in new motor on boat, I'm def. going for option number 3.

Damn bigJake, how are you so close to a ramp? Do you own it or something?? Wish I had your setup!!

Skis are on ramps in the backyard. I have to drive about 1/2 mile to the actual ramp to put them in the water at the beginning of the season.

Nice!

I'm 40 minutes from the nearest lake where they charge $4 per person and another $4 to launch the ski. Nice lake though, Lake Tobosofkee in Macon GA. They host the Jettribe ProHydro-X race there on 13-14th July 2013.

There are rivers near me that are closer, but I've never thought about riding them. Rivers have always freaked me out a little due to all the junk that floats in them and in Georgia them seem to be very muddy. But from reading the forum seems like rivers are popular, guess it's something I'll have to consider. Not something I'd do alone, but maybe with another inmate from the forum!

Where about in North East Ohio do you live?

I lived in Madison for YEARS which is very close to the Lake County / Ashtabula Line.
I now live in the Strongsville are. I hit the lake whenever I am able but travel to meet others when the opportunity presents itself...

Which 3rd one you talking about? Falls? Then we have Hyco, and Gaston within 1.5hours. Couple more too. We've got it pretty good here in the middle of the state.

Gaston is pretty cool.

I have a launch about 5 mins from my house that is to the lake. I would have to drive a half hour to go where all my buddies dock their boats. they want me to get a slip with them. i think its more convenient to just trailer my ski back and forth from my house to either the lake or the bay i go to. I dont have any friends with skis yet so i would just take it to the lake by myseld. Just wondering everyones opinion if i should waste 4-500 dollars for a slip when i dont even spend that in gas to tow it and i wont use the marinas pool or services ever.

I meant Falls. That one is not far, and is about as big as Jordan. I wonder if the water clarity is any better, Jordan will just about stain your clothes if you get splashed. Good thing about that is it makes it an unsuitable place for that damn hydrilla, which grows all over Harris Lake. Gotta watch how close you get to the banks in the summer time, I've sucked up HUGE clumps of it and lost propulsion (and more importantly, cooling!) Is Gaston the one in Chrlotte?

Any time you can keep your ski out of the water when you are not using it is a good thing.

It helps with corrosion, theft, hull issues and sinking...

If it is easy to tow it I would just keep on doing so.

Falls I hear is super busy, don't know much about it other than that. Hear they are also ticket happy like the ramp at Jordan you were talking about. I've only had a ski up here the last.....not even year at this point. So I've only been out on Harris and Gaston. Gaston is between the NC and VA border. Norman is the one down by Charlotte.
