How do you replace the little red cover on the start/stop button?

I found the part I need from Seadoo but am having trouble getting the switch assembly off of my 99 GTI to replace it. Also need to do the same on the 97 SPX. Do you have to remove the grip and slide the assembly off the handlebar or do you remove the center pad and go from that side? Also, I thought I read where you could just prod it in to place without taking anything apart.

For the 97 SPX, you need to look UNDER the pod where the button is. There is a tiny hex allen screw under there that you need to loosen.

Then pry off the end cap for the handlebar grip. Remove the screw from there and the grip will slide off. The pod then slides off in piece as well.

If your removing just the red cover to the switch then yes it just prys out. It has 5 little hold that sit in pin like things to hold it. If you just take tweaser and start pulling from one side it will come out. Then just make sure it is all out and push the new one in. Mine was really bad and was like nasty jelly. This is of corse if your are only talking about the little red rubber cover part.

Thanks, I figured it out last night. sometimes I make things harder than they need to be. It just pried out and the new one popped in. Mine was jelly too. It's amazing what 11 years of thumb prints does to rubber.
