No, you dont need the special tool. What you have to do is remove the circlips that hold the piston pin in. This is usually done with a small screwdriver or a very pointed tool (i use a screwdriver where i ground down the end so it is pointy, kind of like the end of a light tester). Then take a socket that fits against the piston pin and place it against the piston pin and use a hammer to hit the socket until the pin comes out the other side. MAKE sure you place a rag inside the case because the piston wrist bearings will have about 30 pins that will fall into the motor if you do not catch them. This being said, it is way easier to do this with the engine removed than with it still in the hull.

If it doesnt come out with a light tap. Use a 12mm Socket or whatever fits in there and another 13/16th socket or something bigger than that hole on the other side. about 2 washers 2 nuts and about a foot of 1/4 all thread. works Great! and wont destroy the bearings or crank.

You don't want to hit it hard. As above... if it doesn't come out with light taps... you can damage the connecting rod and/or the crank.

Also... as above... use a couple sockets, and a hunk of all thread to pull the pin.
