No, you dont need the special tool. What you have to do is remove the circlips that hold the piston pin in. This is usually done with a small screwdriver or a very pointed tool (i use a screwdriver where i ground down the end so it is pointy, kind of like the end of a light tester). Then take a socket that fits against the piston pin and place it against the piston pin and use a hammer to hit the socket until the pin comes out the other side. MAKE sure you place a rag inside the case because the piston wrist bearings will have about 30 pins that will fall into the motor if you do not catch them. This being said, it is way easier to do this with the engine removed than with it still in the hull.
