There is a a 12" X 8" ovoid hatch right above them. Does it just pop off with a pry tool, or do I have to remove the 40'leven screws that hold the clamshell together. I do not like it when I break stuff trying to fix things. I know this is simple to most of you, but I am on unfamiliar ground.

Thanks.....nm

NO!!!

Take the panel off the bottom to get to the gauges. That top panel has bolts that are also accessed from the bottom.

Resurrecting this old thread because I'm also trying to access the gauges on my '96 Challenger. The bottom panel seems to be held on by a dozen or so 7/32 screws. Looks like I'm going to need a thin-walled driver to get at a bunch of them. Does it sound like I'm heading in the right direction?

Yep. there's a bunch of them, and they suck to take off. A good 12 point socket, and a cordless drill will make it easier.
