I, like many others here, think that this is a great forum. I have learned a lot in a short amount of time thanks to the helpful people regularly posting here and I am glad that this place exists for me to check in often.

I was curious how this forum got started. Who are the founding members? What's the history? Any roadblocks or doubts along the way? And how is PWCMuscle & SeadooWarehouse affiliated?

Let's hear it!!

And...Thanks for putting forth your efforts in creating a daily stop for me as well as many others!

:hurray:

Hey DJ,
This site started a few years ago when we noticed there wasn't a real good forum for helping SeaDoo specific PWC owners. It didn't take too long for many very knowledgeable members to start assisting others. Once there was a small base, it grew rather quickly. We are about to break 40,000 members as of this post....far beyond what we ever anticipated!

From the begining, the idea has been to keep this place a mature, friendly, help forum. Unlike many other forums on the internet, there is very little bantering or bickering...something we have been very fortunate with. Heated discussions are fine, but name calling is crossing the line, and you just don't see it here (despite many strong opinions).

Greg and I started the site, but Louis (seadoosnipe) and Karl (kustomkarl) have been around for a very long time now and really helped BUILD the forum. They have been the main contributors here. Not to take away from the numerous other regulars, but these two deserve special recognition. There have also been several moderators who have come and gone (many still return to say hi) along the way.

SeaDooWarehouse and PWC Muscle are partnering sites. Here at SDF we have a wonderful member base, but do not sell parts. SeaDooWarehouse (oem replacement parts) and PWC Muscle (performance parts) sell discounted seadoo parts, but do not have member bases. Just made sense ;)

As far as road blocks, keeping the servers running and maintained for this site has always been a challenge. We've gone from a simple shared server powering everything to now requiring 3 seperate servers (with numerous stepping stones along the way). There were some major reliability problems with the forum about 18 months ago, all of which stemmed from the forum growing faster than we could upgrade the hardware. It's very expensive and time consuming to keep the site up and running, but I'm sure everyone would agree that it is well worth it.

The most important part of this community is the memberbase. That is something that we never lose sight of. Without contributing members helping other members, this place wouldn't have lasted. The good-spirited nature and helpful posts make SDF a real unique forum. We love having everyone here, and I personally want to close this post by saying Thank You to all of our members. It's an honor and a pleasure.

Thanks Guys!!!

I've been a member for only two months and the information I've been able to use from both the site and other members has been great!!!! I belong to a similar site for my power boat http://www.eggharborowners.org/. It's been a labor of love restoring my '77 36' Tournament Edition. If anybody out there has and Egg I highly recommend it. As the petrol prices ski rocket - it's getting a little pricey to joy ride the 19,000 pound lead sled daily so I've invested in an '08 and and an '10 rxt-x for getting the family out on the water.
Kudos to all for making this a fun but extremely helpful forum, but especially to our founders!
The '77 runs like a dream ... thanks in part to the help of some friends .... Keep posting!!!!
