High rpm low speed

Did you put the cone on last? Did make sure that the shaft did not move at all when you turned the pump over to put the cone on? :cheers: cone on last yes that was a dumb quetion. My impeller is only tourqued to 52 ft lbs are you sure 81 is correct for your's

Yeah I put the cone on last because the end the cone goes on was in the vise. I dont think it moved. I'm worried now. I'm gonna tear it apart tonight and redo it. Just sucks filling it back with oil again.
 
I pinched my thrust bearing the first time I put a new impeller on my boat. From what I have heard a pro can do it if he is not paying attention. Before you take it apart you can look to see if the impeller is touching the wear ring any were by using a filler guage. I would not think that would be the problem though. When you take the impeller back off the shaft it will slide out the rear where the nose cone is. [cover] Take the thrust bearing off the shaft and see if you pinched it. good luck Robin :cheers:

I dunno what I did different but this time I got torque to 81 and it spins freely. Washer and bearing still look good too. Who knows
 
Well after ripping everything back apart last night I finally got right. Took her for a ride this afternoon and wow what a difference! I thought it was fast before, but now it feels a lot faster. And take off is awesome. Thanks for all the help Karl and Robin.:cheers:
