I have owned a 2003 GTI LE RFI for about 2 years and have had the hi-temp warning come on numerous times. Sometimes I could re-start right away and other times have to wait a few minutes before it will re-start. Dealer could find no problem last year. First time out last weekend and it ran only about 5 minutes at about 3/4 throttle and was fine until I shut it off and then tried to re-start. It said hi-temp warning and would never re-start until it cooled down overnight and started in my garage, but then gave the hi-temp warning after running only a few seconds.
Other than replacing the hi-temp sensor, which I have not yet tried, I have seen some suggestions about the sensor in the exhaust (?). Could it also be the water pump, and if so, how can I tell if it otherwise flushes out okay? Can you tell me where to start with this thing, since it has only 78 hours on it and I don't really want to trade it in.
