97 seadoo challenger 787 starts real easy and will idle all day in The water at 1700 rpm give it a little gas and it wants to quit if u feather the throttle and get the rpm to 3000 it goes like hell runs great plug color is good too. Ive pulled carbs and cleaned the filters new plugs trimmed wires and checked my acc pumps they both spray when i gas it. Could this be rave related or carb related. It idles great so i figured the lo speed jets wernt plugged. Iv read about rectifiers causing issues too. What are things to check. Boat runs 6800 rpm up top and 43 on gps

Yes the boat now runs full rpm up top after i adjusted throttle cables at the carbs and lever. And i have no way of checking the timing. Also compression is good 130 ish both cyls. And i do t rember it having this issue with the old motor but it cavitated so bad it would oy do 15 mph so i think now that its loading the motor properly im seeing a few more small issues. Also last night i check my plugs many many times affer wot and cruising runs all looked great

timing check is simple with an automotive light or a battery powered light from Amazon. read the manual, it will walk you thru the procedure on how to measure for the piston retard from TDC with a dial indicator and transferring marks from PTO coupler to a fixed point/tab and at what rpm you need to spin at... your still missing rpm`s...

did you get this figured out? i have the exact same issue and think i have found what is causing it. just havent been able to take out and test for sure yet.

I took my carbs back apart and found a partially blockex lo speed jet and i cleaned and redid all my grounds but havent water tested yet whet did u find w yours

i think it has to do with the rave not opening. the first time i noticed the bogging i pulled the rave valve apart and noticed that the bellows was not attached to the housing so any pressure was not pushing the piston up and pulling the rave valve open with it. knowing i needed new o-rings on both and bellows on one of them i put it all back together and took it out, which i shouldnt have done until i had the new parts. when i took it out, the first few times i trottled up, there was no hesitation at all. around the 3rd or 4th time, the hesitation was back so i opened the engine comp and found the rave cap melted, which was caused by the o-ring being bad. so i got the new o-rings for both and a new piston and cap and replaced those and took it out. bog was still there so i was kinda confused until i checked the valves again and noticed i had tightened them too tight and they were not moving in the housing at all. you should be able to pull up on the piston and it should move slightly, maybe 1/4 to 1/2 inch. i reassembled them and made sure that i was able to pull the piston up and it pulled the rave valve up with it. i will check this week to see if that was the issue. so in conclusion, i think i had 2 different things causing the rave to not open correctly. 1st was bellows were not attached to housing and 2nd was tightened too much and was not able to open. hopefully it works. let me know if you have either of those issues.

check the accelerator pumps could be failing also. That would cause your stumble and everything else would be fine..

Well just water tested my stumble is completly gone and boat seems to run flawless still only getting 67 6800 rpm but plugs look good so im ok with it my raves move freely and i jave my red caps set flush seems to be a personal prefrence thing on were to run them. I might turn them in amd see if i notice a diffremce but today i had 5 adults in the boat aboit 800 lbs and it got on plane fine and seemed to perform good with the added weight.

If is is running good I wouldn't worry about that few 100 RPM the older gauges are 100% accurate I think.

I experienced the similar thing when adding gas slowly from idle in my last trip.
But that was the only time. I have been doing "slowly from idle" many many times when I was doing break in about 5 days ago.
But I should check my carb again just in case some paint chips got dropped in when I rebuilt the carbs.

I'm confident you did a great job of cleaning and reassembling the carburetors! :) The factory 951 pilot jet orifice is too small, IMO.
