Just bought an immaculate 2005 Sportster, 155, 4 tech. Runs great,
but steering was a little tight. Started to take apart to install a new
steering cable and behold everything is salt frozen. Previous owner
never did any preventative maintenance.

Looking for some tips to break loose the pump and steering assembly.
Drilled bolt heads off but still can't break steering casting loose. Removed
the four nuts holding the pump in place, but can't beak the pump loose
from the frame. Tried heat and penetrating fluids with no luck.

Most of the casting are unavailable so I'm trying to be conservative in the
removal but will try anything at this point.

Thanks in advance for any help

This is why I remove, inspect, and grease mine each year. I know this is a new machine to you so no luck there.

If it were me...

I would make a web of ropes through the static fins in the pump. The the trailer on your truck and use ratchet straps against an immovable object like a tree.

Make sure the ropes are equal length to spread the load and you should not do any damage.

If it is not budging at all, it is most likely seal and mating surface of the pump and the mount adapter. Once you break that free hopefully the driveshaft is not seized on.

Good luck and let us know how you make out
