Info: got a great deal and bought a 1996 Seadoo GSX Bombardier (used, about 100 hours).

Problem: everything works great except for the fact that when its in the water, it won't go past 3500 rpms. I have tried everything I could think of, but can't figure it out.

Things I've Tried: we have ran new fuel lines and made sure they weren't clogged. Checked compression (sits at 750 for each). cleaned out the RAVE valves. checked the recifier. check the battery, spark plugs, and fuses. changed oil filters.

I have tried to go through and check everything. Please help if you can. Thanks

The compression on a healthy 787 should be 150psi per cylinder. That "750" seems a bit high or you just typed the wrong number in the post.

But it sounds like the rectifier is bad.

Have you tested it?

Right, sorry. I meant to write it's between 150 and 170. I did order a new rectifier though. So i'm hoping that is what it is.

You can disconnect the red wire on the rectifier and try it now. Only downside is your not charging the battery, stay close to the shore. But this is how everyone troubleshoots the rectifier

Update on situation. So we replaced the rectifier. We saw an improvement slightly. When tested, it went past 3000 to about almost 5000 but then bogged back down to 3000. Then the engine turned off basically. So we got it back on the trailer. We heard this humming noise. I removed the key and dc'd the battery. i went to reconnect the battery and as soon as i touched the second battery cable to the battery the engine started cranking, wont start just cranks. Then we got a new soleniod and replaced that. But it continues to do the same thing. I did some research and it sounds like it could be the CDI box? I'm not sure what else it could be. Maybe the DESS post, but the key didn't make a difference when it was on the post or not. Let me know what your thoughts are please. Also if it is the CDI box, does that have to be programmed?
