OK, I just bought my first Seadoo, a 2008 Challenger 180. When I first took it out, I noticed its a turd on takeoff. I looked into the intake from below, and the impeller looks fine, the wear rings looks like it could use a replacement, but then I noticed all this gray seal/gunk which looks like a prior repair or service. I also noticed that there is a black ring that is loose between the shaft and the impeller. At the front of the impeller, there is also a black part, cant tell if it is rubber/ceramic, or what, but it does look a little chewed up.
I'm pretty mechanically inclined, whereas I was considering doing the wear ring and impeller myself, but seeing this sealant, and what looks like a bigger repair has me a bit nervous. Can anyone tell me what perhaps looks to have been repaired before, and give me a damage/repair roadmap or if I need to take it in, what kind of bill I'm looking at.
The seller claimed he was 2nd owner, original owner became disabled, so it was sold to him after sitting for years with only 40 hours on it. I just bought it with 65 hours on it. That was all the history I have.
