I am new to Sea Doo and new to the forum, but need some advice and direction. I bought a 1998 Sea Doo Challenger 1800. Test drove and bought then took the boat in for service after I couldnt start it and they told me that I had a bad ECM Board.....Electronic Control Monitor, PN 204470155. This board costs about $1600.00 and the previous owner was nice enogh to split the cost with me.......BUT, we can't find one. The Sea Doo Service Shop ordered one from Bombardier (Order #1007197042), but Bombadier can't tell us when the part will come in as it is on backorder. I know something about Supply Chain and can't understand why they can't tell me when their order will be filled by their supplier?? Anyway, I have been searching everywhere for some help as we would love to get on the water. Any and all help is appreciated. I live in suwanee, GA and we are 5 miles from Lake Lanier. Thanks in advance to all that respond!!!:(

Are you serious??... I need the same MPEM!!.. Have a mechanic comin on Friday to confirm mine is bad. What exactly is your boat not doing??

I am serious!

I am not sure what an MPEM is, they called mine an ECM. There was another Sea Doo in the shop last month, so they swapped the ECM's and said that mine ran great. This confirmed that the issue was the ECM, but that was 4 weeks ago and again, we cant get Bombarier to tell us anything besides that it is on backorder and they have no idea when they will be getting any in. The boat started right up thye day we test drove it, then a week later it wouldnt turn over. We thought it was water in the fuel, but that seems fine now.

What didn't start?.. Either engine??..if they have a working MPEM why don't they sell you that one and take the one on backorder?..doesn't make sense to me. I would ask what they feel is wrong with the MPEM. Is it blowing the 5 amp fuse that powers it???
As far as I know it only was only in 98 & 99 models. You can learn a LOT information about diagnosing this issue by reading on here first. If you haven't left the boat at the dealership I would recommend doing that first.

ECM Board

They only swapped the board with the other boat to confirm that it was the ECM. The one they started my boat with belongs to the owner of the other Sea Doo that was in the shop. Correct, niether engine will fire. Acctually had not thought about getting my ECM repaired or doing it myself. thanks for the input.

That's pretty damn ballsy to risk someone elses MPEM to diagnose your boat. Easily could have fried that one too. There are several videos and tutorials on how to fix the board. I only have the problem of 1 engine dead but will see what mechanic can put in stone for me before I go looking for board.

I had the same problem in getting a new MPEM las season. Was on backorder for 6 weeks at my dealership. Finally cancelled the order and re-ordered it online. Seadoowarehouse (parts, upper left hand corner) might have it, but there are probably a few online retailers that might have it as well. Just check around and find out a distributer that has it in stock. If seadoowarehouse doesn't have it, just check any number of other online retailers that deal with BRP parts - there are quite a few.

All it takes is one push of the lanyard when you have a battery charger or a running car with jumper cables to kill them, inexperienced mechanics kill them all the time, there is a custom repair company that can fix some of these, search for mpem repairs.

I finally found one on e-bay motors via marinevalues.com, they have a few more too. They are shipping on Mon 6/7, let me know if you need more info.

No more left

They shipped my MPEM yesterday via UPS and they sent me the tracking number, so it should arrive tomorrow. I asked them (via e-bay) if they still had a few others (for you), but they said that they are all gone now and he doesnt know when they will be getting more. I will let you know if I hear anything. Thanks, Paul

Thanx for the info. We still haven't confirmed 100% that it's the mpem yet. Mechanic coming back tonite with schematics to verify, could still be just the dess key.

Good luck guys - I lost most of my last season waiting for my MPEM to arrive so it is good to hear y'all got yours before the dog days of summer arrive.
