I must have found a misprint in the online manual

I took the head off to check things and the manual says to use loctite 242under the bolt heads and synthetic grease on the threads.

Another page says to do the opposite, and yet another says to use loctite 515 on the threads grease under the bolt heads. whats the deal?

Also--- says to use loctite 515 on the rubber gasket seal for the head???

Thanks! bc3

What manual are you looking at? Also, please put your seadoo year and model on your profile so everybody can better help you with your questions.

sorry bout that 787 in a 97xp...manual is the one I purchased online

I see that the head bolts are treated differently than the cylinder bolts. I guess I will follow the manual, but it was new to me in terms of using grease on bolt threads instead of a loctite.

Also- RE: the 515 on the rubber rings..is that to be applied as a topical on the installed oring, or only when installing a new oring? I havent used loctite 515 so I dont know the consistency bc3

BC3, is it a "Seadoo" Shop Manual? The instructions are for two different things. The one you are referring to with the "242" is for just putting the Cylinder Head Cover back on. The other directions are for the putting the cylinder block back on.

its the Seadoo manual I purchased from this site.

Where I am at is reassembling the head after finding mud bees in the lines up to and inside of the head itself. I also wanted to do a visual of the cylinders for rodent damage (none ---phheww) I am assuming that they want the cap of the bolts to lock in place, but not wanting the threads to be locked in?

any synthetic grease ok?

Ok gotcha. I've seen some manuals, not from this site, that are really jacked up with wrong info. As long as you got it here you can trust it is accurate and dependable.
That's good, no mouse droppings everywhere.
If you just took the head cover off, just put the Loctite 518 in O-ring groove of cylinder sleeves and slap that baby on there.
Then follow the instruction for the installation of the head cover.
Apply Loctite 243 (blue) below head of screws

Apply also synthetic grease on threads of screws

Torque cylinder head screws no. 14 to 12 N•m
(9 lbf•ft) as per following illustrated sequence. Repeat
the procedure, retightening all screws to 24
N•m (17 lbf•ft).

OK..thank you VERY much for the quick response..now I am off the the auto supply store.

btw..This thing royally reaked of rodent urine..found nests and nuts everywhere up into the exhaust elbow...etc. So far nothing catastrophic -its taken multiple washings just to get the water to run clear instead of brown...nasty critters. Im glad they didnt find the carb intake and am hopeful that the urine didnt get into the starter assembly as it was a pee area.

Thanks again..bc3
