I've got a 96 Sea-Doo Speedster Jet Boat with twin 85hp engines. I took it out on the water yesterday and discovered some things that I think a little fine tuning and work would help. Here we go:
1. I think I need to replace the lanyard for ignition. When I put the lanyard on the key it makes contact whenever it feels like it , sometimes I will get the 2 beeps and it will fire right up and sometimes nothing. The reason why I think its the lanyard and not the system itself is because I can get the boat to run by playing with the tabs on the key.
2. The idles of the engines do not match. At low idle they are about 500rpm off but at higher idle they are a couple 1000 off. When I match the handles up and accelerate the left engines idle flies up. How do I adjust this? I'm a car guy so I have an idea but I'll need some walking through
3. Every now and then when I was accelerating the left engines idle would fly up but it didn't seem to move the boat any quicker it sounded like there was no water in the jet pump and it was just spinning quickly with no pressure. Any ideas to what I'm experiencing here?
I was told to check some things like the "gland seal" because the boat took on a little bit of water on the deck when it was launched. Then when I started it and took off the water went away, could this sound like a gland seal? If so, what is it?
Also the spinning, could this be cavitation? Caused by also the gland seal or impeller?
I was told the high rev paired with no power could be the wear rings, if it needs wear rings could this also mean the neoprene seals are gone causing the deck to take on water when not moving.
Any type of help would be great, thanks guys
I'd really like to get this thing in the water soon guys, Id love some help
