Has my 717 ever been opened?

I've acquired a mint 2003 GTI. I had assumed the 717 had never been opened by the overspray on the head bolts, and small oil lines, for example. Can someone confirm that overspray occured from the factory, or perhaps it has indeed been opened and repainted?IMG_5700.JPGIMG_5709.JPGIMG_5708.JPGIMG_5707.JPG

Hard to tell if it’s factory paint. Maybe look in the spark plug holes and see if the pistons are overbore size or not? That could be one clue. Super clean ski BTW. Looks like a good find.
FYI the spark plug boot grounding terminals and airbox mount are missing on the left hand side of the cylinder head in your second picture

Thanks. Yeah I have that off, and the airbox, as I'm inspecting the oil lines etc. The small oil lines are soft and pliable, which is a bit hard to believe if they're 19 years old.

I'd rather have a ski that has been worked on old as they are. :) oil lines don't look factory but that doesn't mean anything. Good idea to replace them. Check compression. Ski does look really well kept. Good Luck
