Hi!
I recently bought a GTX 2001 carb model with the 951 engine.
My problem is I cant get it over 50mph.
It run absolutley fine until you give it full throttle and it is about to pass 50mph, then it starts to cough and bow goes down. It wont go over 50mph...
What is the problem? It runs absolutey fine with 3/4 throttle at 48-49mph, but when I push full throttle and about to pass the 50mph mark It starts to behave really strange. It seems like it doesnt get any fuel or air... maybe it is the R.A.V.E valves that everyone is talking about?

Does anyone know how fast my GTX should go?
I am very grateful for your help.

Best regards

have you checked your RAVE's? are they clean and free of carbon depoists?

You can try riding with your seat off and the red/black caps off the RAVE's and see if they are opening.

Also have you replaced those troublesome nasty grey fuel lines yet?

I have not checked the raves yet, will do it tomorrow and try to clean them up. What do the rave most aftwarthships do, should I check that one too?

I bought it a few months ago so i dont know if I have thoose grey fuel lines or not. How do I know if I have them?

look at the fuel lines running into you rfuel tank/fuel baffle... if they are grey, you are going to want to replace those with some nice black automotive ones! and also clean the fuel selector knob, baffle filter, fuel filter, and the internal carb filters along with carbs.

For the RAVE's, take one apart at a time incase you forget how they go back together. Take the metal clip off, the red/black cap off. Take the air line off, remove the 2 allen screws and remove it. Clean the guillotine with carb cleaner and a brass wire brush or brass scraper. make sure it is brass so it is a softer metal then the valve and does not scratch it up. Also unscrew the black cap on top of the bellow, pull off the big spring. Wipe the inside of the bellow clean. re-assemble and install back into the ski, repeat the process for the other valve. let us know how bad they were, if they have alot of carbon build up it was probably the problem. FYI: these should be cleaned at least once a year, twice isnt bad if you ride alot, once in spring and once mid-season

Took the raves out yesterday and cleaned them up. They very full of dust and burnt oil.
The bellow where full with oil so will have to buy a new o-ring for that.

Took a test ride after cleaning and top speed was close to 60. :hurray::cheers:

thanks for help. will change the fuel lines in the future, had the grey ones.

Update:
I have done the RAVEs, they now look nice and clean, took them totally apart and cleand everything in it. Changed O rings and put it pack together.

Out tonight for a test ride. She did around 55mph.
Deaccelerated down to around 40 just for comfort. 2 min later I thought of doing a new test just to confirm my speed problems where gone.

Pushed the throttle WOT and exactly at the 6000rpm she beggins to bog/go/bog/go/bog.
The "bog/go" thing is between 5000 rpm in "bog" and 6000 in "go".

Does anyone of you have a clue of whats wrong with my bird?

yep... the carbs need to be cleaned.

at he beginning of the thread... You were asked about the gray fuel hoses. do you have them? if you do, replace them. they are known to decay, and plug up the carbs.

Yep I have the gray lines.
Okey, will remove the carbs and change the lines.
Approx how long time does it take to remove the carbes? shouldnt bee too hard?
Will change those darn lines when I am doing that.

i did mine in 3 days after work about 2 hours a night , so a good day you could do it. yes buy your fuel line and replace when you do the carbs, if you need help with how to do this let me know, i just did my 99 GSX ltd yours cant be much difference. i used 10' 1/4" and 10' 5/16" fuel line on mine. but its most likely the carb filters are gummed up.

around 15ft of 5/16in and 5ft of 1/4in. Sounds more like a rtectifier issue or WATER REGULATOR iss ue to me. Fire ski up, and volt test battery while holding 5500rpm, readings should be 13.5-14-ish, not in the 12's or 15's. Next, if that good, then locate the w.r.(water regulator) on top of muffler, follow the little hose from it to pipe, remove from pipe, and while out testing on water, leave the line off and out pass the seat and with rpms increasing, the flow of water from that line should decrease, if not, you need a new W.R.

Update:
I have now changed all the grey fuel lines. It took me about 1,5 hour or so.

I got the carbs out and took em apart.
MAG carb filter looked pretty dirty...
PTO carb filter looked I cant find words for it...shit, i feel sorry for her been out of fuel for that long, i coulnt belive my eyes. It was totally clogged with goo. Tried to blow high pressure air throug it and nothing happend. Cleaned it up and now it is fresh and nice! :):hurray:

Will get back to you guys as soon as she is back in the water and tell you the result of testride.

Best
