GTI 155 hp

When I was looking for a new pwc I noticed that reviewers were stating that the GTI 155 has a 155 hp engine but in the operator manual for the GTI pwc and the Rotex web site states that the engine is rated for 106 kw or about 144 hp and the gti 130 is rated at 131 hp or 97 kw so how did Sea doo come up with the 155 hp figure on the GTI 155 ?

It looks like to me the Rotax 1503 DT 4-TEC 131 hp / 97kw(2015 Sea Doo operators guide)
engine is a better choice for me and many then the Rotax 1503 NA 4-TEC 144 hp /106kw (2015 Sea Doo operators guide) engine because the price that one pays for that 13 extra hp when doing it with a different cam profile .
In small engine the price for boosting hp with a cam is :
1: reduction in low and mid rpm power
2: a more narrow power band or the range of rpms that the engine will develop high torque
3: Peak torque must occur at a higher rpm to get 13 more hp at the same 7300 rpm, This results in higher fuel consumption when using the eco mode.

We all know that fuel consumption at top speed is high but nothing compared to when one is constantly accelerating and decelerating and I was thinking of this when I made my purchase and am happy with the fuel consumption of the 131 hp engine.

before i bought my 2015 gti 130, ive read that the was hardly any difference in feel when riding 130 or 155 hp. and that was from folks that has them both. to band there isn't a tune for these n/a skis like the spark does. probably should have gone with the gtr 215. lol!

I just started making some sharp 40 mph turns and its really pushing me hard on this boat.
I think in order to to fully take advantage of these supercharged boats ,one has to be in significantly superior physical condition are the extra torque is just a waste . 130 hp is just fine for a 54 yo guy like me in good physical condition .

I think that if you got a sc model ,you might find that you can't go a whole day driving in a sporting way without becoming extremely fatigued . Also I have no problem going a whole day with a full tank plus a 3 gallon pit stop from a container I keep in a trunk . I would guess with a sc model , you might burn as much as 30 gallons in a day and that's not cheap.

Hop on a 96 XP and ride it like you stole it. You won't last 45 min. Neither will your gas! The supercharged boats will push your limits but that is the thrill of it! I have to say though the new GTI 130's are good skis and seem pretty stout for what they are.

the reason i bought the GTI is because it is the most nimble of the 4 tec skis out there. i really love it as i don't feel near as fatigued as i did with my GSX because of the chop. the GSX beat me to death (body getting old) but the GTI i can ride for hours and still manage to do some spin outs and carve the water. as with the GTR, i imagine the fun factor and hole shot climbing out of the spins and tight turns. being the G's freak that i am, i would burn the fuel like it's going out of style hence is why i ended up with the GTI. i usually burn 7 gallons per afternoon outing (about 4 hrs of fun)
all and all i am very happy with the GTI 130 but a part of me wants that SC. lol

This is not quite correct. It all depends how you ride. Our group goes on long cruises, and if you cruise in the 40-50 MPH range like we do, the SC models don't burn any more fuel than the NA ones. In fact, in mixed speeds, I seem to use less fuel on some rides than the NA guys with us. If you ride WOT, then yes, the SC models gobble up the fuel, but it is rare that I run for any length of time at WOT.

A engine becomes more efficient as it gets closer to its max torque rpm .
The engine then starts to run out of breath and quickly becomes less efficient as you pass that point .
The GTI 130 in the eco mode that's about 5800 rpm at around 38 mph . Above 38 mph , a super charger keeps the air /fuel ratio good and fuel consumption down when cruising at higher speeds but at some point above 38 mph it comes up short and the engine becomes very inefficient. Just switch to the eco mode and go to full throttle and where the rpms stop is that ideal speed/rpm that you don't want to go over without paying a big price with respect to fuel. Below 38mph the GTI will always be more efficient because of the boats lower weight and without the losses caused by having to drive the supercharger

wow you must be a very gentle rider, I have a 155 GTI and when we go out for the day we almost always come back on fumes, granted we tube and beat the hell out of each other with it as well, sure thats not great for my GPH :)
