Going to replace the fuel lines in my 2001 seadoo rx now. Does anyone know what sizes are on it and about how much I should buy to be safe. Was gonna go to an auto parts store and get a couple rolls.

I have a question about the grey fuel lines. When was the first encounter or when did the grey lines start becoming a problem, or a prevelant occurance?

I believe it started when ethanol was introduced into fuels. It reacts with the brass and breaks down the glue turning it into a green gunk

Long live the 2 stroke Seadoo!

I know, but like how long ago did problems start happening? 2000? 2005? 1995? See what I mean? Just curious never really figured that out...

It all depends on when the specific state/province/country introduced the ethanol to the fuel. Not all areas had ethanol introduced at the same time. You can try Google but I believe that there are areas in the US that still don't have ethanol in their regular fuel, dont quote me on that.

Most premium fuels dont have the ethanol, so if the ski ran for 15 years on premium the fuel lines wont have an issue, other then the fact that they are old.

Going to need 19' 5/16" line and 6' of 1/4"

I actually dont think it was ethanol, although thats a part of it. In MN we have had Ethanol longer than anyone, and I've never seen lines rotten like I have seen posted.

My theory is gas additives...different refineries put different stuff in gas. I think thats why the major rotting issues are so regional.

It started as soon as they started using the Grey line...93-94 was the beginning. I think I have read they changed the formulations in 01, but I dont take any chances. Just replace it.

This seems to be an issue in the US as here in Europe the lines don't seem to cause issues,I was talking to my dealer here and he said he never saw an issue with the breakdown of the lines.opened all my lines to check and no damage at all, and my ski is a Canadian import

At the present time almost all the gas sold in the US contains ethanol. There is a web site listing stations that sell ethanol free gasoline. (http://pure-gas.org/). Most you will see are marinas. Gasoline consumption has remained relatively level after 2000. Below are the levels of ethanol produced and gasoline consumed in the US.

Gasoline Consumed Ethanol Produced % of Ethanol gas based on 10%
2000 130.2 Billion Gal 1.63 Billion Gal 11.2%
2005 140.4 Billion Gal 3.9 Billion Gal 25.0%
2012 138.8 Billion Gal 13.9 Billion Gal 90.1%

As you can see the increased usage of ethanol started around 2004.

I'll be changing my lines also, for a GTX 97 787, which size and how long should I buy for gas & oil lines?

25' of 1\4" fuel line and 18 SS hose clamps to fit that size hose.

Approximate lengths Oil lines

Pump to injecters 3\32 - 3 ft
Tank to pump 5\16 - 4 ft
Tank to RV and RV back to top of tank. 7\16" -- 7 ft

All ID measurements.

I have a pic somewhere in the forum showing the sizes and lengths. I will see if I can find it.

Good stuff here... I need to do my 95 GTX with a 657X. Do you know what's required on it?

I think the issue is caused by ethonal. I installed an in line filter with new line running from the filter to the carb. The old line I removed show no signs of deterioration. I'm 90% sure this ski never had ethonal in it.
